Might be a dumb question, but I was homeschooled and like questions. I was reading around and read that the t5 models have a 2.25" throttle body, but the N/A models have a 3" throttle body.

So the big question is would it make a noticeable difference in performance to put in the bigger throttle body from the N/A models?

And....besides the intake would you have to change anything else? (Snabb sells an intake pipe for the 3").

lot of topics on it, search around. it's not worth it really unless you have the supporting mods. in my opinion!

Yes, especially with a 960 plate. Only issue here is that you're going to have to port the intake manifold to mate up to the N/A TB. it will take some work but it's doable

Isn't too hard. Porting the manifold kinda sucks if you don't have a good die grinder.
I can't really tell you it made my car faster but it made it much more responsive.
Do this and then also swap in a 960 throttle plate from a junk yard. It's worth it if you have the time.

Or just do what I did and get the NA intake as well which is already ported for the TB. ;)

+1 on the 960 plate though.

doesn't the NA intake have some sort of flap system in it?

i used a flap sander to enlarge the manifold, & had to extend the TPS sensor wires as its turned 90degrees on the 960

also removed LOADs of the lag from my 19t, did fit 3" RIP kit at the same time but the TB seems to make quite a difference

Only on the real early ghetto 93 N/A models and some MY93 that are listed as a 94 models.

Here is a comparison of the two throttle bodys and a ported and oem manifold. Personally I went with the NA throttle body and not the 960 plate so i do have the little plastic wedge on mine. The reason for this wedge is to give a smoother transition as the throttle body closes so you dont have that abrupt on or off transition when you let off the throttle or slow acceleration from an idle . Some people have it, some dont. I had it and put the wedge plate in and the problem is gone.

As for the TPS sensor. Take the metal mount plate (and if needed the linkage) off your existing throttle body and move it to the N/A. Then the hardware will all be in the same position and there is no need to move or extend wires.

Awesome pics. Always good to have a.visual. My main goal is to improve airflow on the intake side, the stock air intake system just seems to be constricting the airflow.

Thanks for all the input. Will see what the local yard has :)

Or just go to your local pick-n-pull style junkyard, rip one off a NA. Don't even have to take the throttle off the mani.

dont you still have to port the inlets on the motor itself to make the NA manifold fit

No they aren't talking about VVIS manifolds. 96+ manifolds on most all NA's will have no EGR and of course accept the larger throttle body. 95 manifolds on an NA will be the same throttle body size but have EGR. 94 NA's very likely to have VVIS, and of course 93 NA's = guaranteed unless someone swapped (like i'm doing).

VVIS manifolds on a turbo = a bad idea if you ask me. But i'm biased against them lol.

regardless what you do if you plan to put in a 960 throttle plate you WILL have to remove the throttle body from the intake manifold as the plastic wedge goes IN toward the manifold when the throttle is opening... its not hard to do its a whole (4) 10mm bolts just get a gasket they are cheap.

SOME people have mentioned that with the NA throttle body with a 960 plate that where is very unpredictable / touchy tip in throttle response. I have not felt this personally as I can't install a NA manifold & TB until I get someone to make me pipes... buttttttttt IF you do happen to have awkward / jumpy tip in throttle responce there is an option of simply keeping the NA throttle plate with the plastic damper. Seeing as the NA & Turbo have plastic wedges & the NA is still larger it will still flow more air than the turbo one will. Again I just had a few thoughts because I had to make alterations to a turbo one as I cant fit a 2.5" pipe over a 3" throttle body.

the variable intake system manifold would be cool if you could have a controler linked into the ECU & boost curve so that you could use it to help eliminate low RPM high boost situations. Maybe use it for increased low end performance to compensate for boost lag as well as a safe net for "too soon junior" boost and then onces its gradually gets toward a safe RPM the valves gradually open.
