I know a lot of people have been looking for sources for clear headlight lenses for 98+ X70's. I just got in a set for my 1998 S70 for an upcoming hid projector retrofit project from Autolampsplus:

They are $50 a side for DOT approved glass lenses with new clips and seals. They ship out of south Florida, two pairs cost a total of $216 shipped to Portsmouth, NH.

They come from the same source as the lenses on the ABM projectors. They aren't listed on the website so you'll need to call. I talked with Josh several times and he was great to work with. I haven't tried mounting them yet, but holding them up they look like they should fit well. I'm hoping to do the retrofit next weekend so I'll post back when I do.

I got an FX-R kit from the retrofit source. I've test fired them and they look very nice. I haven't opened up the headlights yet, hopefully they will not be to big. Holding them on top of the headlights it looks like it will be a somewhat tight fit.

Nice find, what is the diff. in between the FX-R you have and the Mini H1 4.1?? in diameter they are the same 2.5 inch lenses if i remember correct.

Yes, they are both 2.5" lenses. It looks like the mini's are only about 1/4" less deep than the fx-r's, which is the important dimension. The big difference in terms of dimensions is that the fx-r has a larger mounting frame around it, but there looks to be plenty of space for the frame inside the reflector.

As for performance, my understanding is that the FX-R is a better projector but requires more modifications to install. The H1 mini is supposed to be very easy to put, almost plug and play they say. You can see a comparision of different projectors here:

I'm hoping to do the install this upcoming weekend. My brother and I each have kits we're putting into our '98 x70's. We're planning on taking pics as we go and putting up a post about it.

how was mating the glass lenses to the OEM assembly? any fitment issues?

No fitment issues at all, they are direct replacements for the stock fluted glass. They are held in using the stock clips and seals (they do come with new seals and clips by the way. I'll put a picture up soon of the new headlights when I get on my other computer.

And yes, you need to call or email for these lenses.

These lenses have the same manufactures part number as the ones I got from Autolampsplus, so these should be good for anyone looking for a set of clear lenses.

Just a note, it cost me $16 to get 4 lenses shipped from Autlamps location in Maimi to Portsmouth, NH.

Here are two pictures of the new projectors installed behind the clear lenses. I still need to go back in and install the shrouds but we ran out of time doing the original install.

Looking good. Curious as to high beam performance with stock high beams through clear lense. Also curious as to your method for getting the projectors level and aligned.

They'll be useless spotlights blinding everyone and everything, hazardous and useless at the same time. They were not designed to be used without fluted glass. The only way to properly do this would be do a second projector in the high beam location, I forget who but another guy on here did that and it turned out pretty good.

That or install a bi-xenon projector and turn the hi-beam into a daytime running light with LEDs

How does a high-beam blind someone, if you should only be using them when others aren't around?
