On my V70 (170k miles), the AC will work for weeks, then stop working, work again for a week ... with no apparent reason/relationship to outside influences like temperatures etc. The system is fully charged and when it works, cooling perfomance is great. There has been some noise coming from the vents/control panel but I assume this completely is unrelated and has to do with the baffles and airflow control. The control panel lights have blinking a couple of times, but do NOT seem to correspond directly to the compressor not engaging. Lights might flash and the AC will stop working a week or two later.

When the AC works, the compressor engages and there is a clear clicking, which I assume it either the a seloniod or the clutch enaging.

I've read about the clutch gap being an issue with V70 ACs not engaging. Could this be the case and explain the randomness?
