Might be a silly question........I want to upgrade the ECU in my 98 v70 t5 and found a decent deal on a R ECU....

So like it says can I just plug n play or do I need to modify a few things?

Also will that change the boost or do I need to run a BC?

Thanks.

850R or V70R? V70R fine, 850R not fine.

yes 98 v70r ecu is plug n play, you will see some more boost, no supporting mods needed but letting the exhaust breath a bit more would help the spool time slightly.

Thanks for the replies.

Need to double check that's a v70r and not 850r. I am working on the intake side right now. Planning on doing exhaust in the near future, kinda doing my build as I find the best deals....

If it's not what you need, PM me as I have more than a few "R" cores of both 850 and 70 series.

Make sure it's from a 98 also.

It really won't gain you much, probably 5whp, so unless it's real cheap I would just get a tune or mbc instead.

Does the current ECU work well with a boost controller? Someone said it doesn't work well.

Unfortunetly the guy didn't specify upfront it was for an 850 R.....so I will be sending lucky a message ;)

Do your mods then just buy an ard tune from lucky for those specific mods, best way to do it.

If I recall correctly you can turn up the boost a couple psi without the ecu freaking out. Again though, your best bet is just to get a tune.

14psi is the typical fuel cut point for M4.4 so an MBC/EBC can be used to that point, although there is some risk of connecting rod damage with MBC...
