so i have read old post about failing smog. I read about the Denatured alcohol trick and a bottle of HEET. I did the Heet bottle. I was wondering if anyone has done the alcohol trick recently with any success? also, how much alcohol should i use with a 1/4 tank of gas. Should i run 91 ocotane? Thanks for any help. I have a 97 850.

What to do to sneak by depends on what you failed on. HC, NOX, CO

OK good. NOX is only produced at very high temps first of all so depending on what they do in your state don't bring the car in hot as a pistol if you can. There are cat cleaning products you can run through the gas tank as well. Alcohol is used when there's a problem with HC. Running premium fuel won't hurt.

I went 2 days ago to smog my 96 850 Glt and It almost passed the HC at 25mph failed by 11 points and the CO .04 above limit Nox was 200 points below max so today after I changed plugs wires and cap and rotor I tried the Alcohol trick also today ...Out come Gross polluter

Cat is also 2 Years old had to change it before the last smog check the old one rattled and the O2 sensors changed as well
