Hey whats up this is LB850,

I have a local offer for a 2005 S60 R Black
w/ evolv exhaust,
evolv body kit,
bbk,
6 speed manual,
intake,
150,000 Miles My only concern (T_T)

what are the typical problems with the 05 year....

11,300 out the door.. I can talk down to probably 10.5k

is this a good deal? Are there still angle gear problems on the 05's?

Im looking to make around 350 awhp and I will be happy..

Just had clutch replaced, timing belt complete job. all OEM

Price seems high for mileage. Even at $10k

I have an automatic 2005 S60R I have had for about 15K miles it it has been reliable for the most part. I get an occassional Electronic Brake Assist Needs service warning but it usually resets and clears itself after restarting the car. The CD changer will overheat sometimes on drives say longer than 2.5 hours which you can still play the radio and let it cool back down. My AWD seems fine and has given no issues.
I have @92K miles on it now and plan on having the dealer perform the timing belt service sometime in 2012.

I would agree the price seems high with the mileage - make sure all the service is up to date though that interior is "wanted".

Check the 4C shocks to make sure that they don't need to be replaced, they're ~$300 each.
Check the angle gear collar, the splines tend to strip out and will need replacement.

The usual manual trans. stuff--clutch, master cylinder, etc.

Good luck to getting 350 awhp
99 V70 R. Silver/Charcoal, 151k, working on stage 0. Still waiting for mods to start....

Cheaper taking it to an Indy shop instead of getting robbed at the dealership.

Indy shops in Atlanta seem to be as expensive at the dealer - Volvo is warrantying work for 2 years/24K now IIRC unlike indies.

you might be right about the price, but miles are not a big deal.
150K at 6-7 year old would be mostly humming along on highway, better than a bunch of short trips in mostly city traffic.
IMO only ;)

ok since you put it like that. i will give you my experiences

aug 2010, bought 2003 xc90 t6 with 143k, trans done at 137k. stacks of reciepts
since aug 2010 to date 164k, i have changed the following

lets start with the front end
  • inner tie rods both
  • outer tie rods both
  • ball joints both
  • control arms both
  • sway bar end links both
  • upper motor mount
  • lower trans mount
  • steering rack
  • alternator
  • brake booster
  • vacuum check valve
  • timing belt water pump
  • pulleys
  • spark plugs
  • coolant
  • both front axles
  • front brake pads both
  • front brake rotors both
  • stainless steel lines
  • all four tires 255/55/18
lets go onto the rear
  • both rear rotors
  • both rear shocks
  • both rear pads
  • rear camber bushings
  • H R lowering springs
  • both rear shocks
  • rear stainless steel lines
AWD System
  • haldex pressure switch
  • haldex aoc pump
thats just the list of repairs in the first 6 months when i got it. its all stuff that will eventually wear out. many of the parts i changed were worn and at the end of their life expectancy.

interior
  • driver seat bottom
  • steering wheel was nasty
  • arm rest
exterior
  • headlamps were done
  • broken tail light
thats just to name a few things for a older high mileage car. Would i get another high mileage NEWER volvo? ehh, dont know...High mileage 98-00 S70 or V70? YES, without a thought, those cars are sooo much less needy LOL.

Do i like or love my xc90? I love it, i enjoy driving it, i have not put anything into maintenance since may 2011. I also bought my xc90 cheap $5800, so it was worth me putting in all that work. You car is a high mileage car with a high price tag, thats why i say not worth it considering the price of the car.

just to give you a idea what these car do at auction so you can see where i am coming from.

From my experiance ('05, manual, 106K) my repairs have been since I bought mine at 45K in '08:

Fuel pressure sensor at 95K
Suspension computer at about 60K (due to AC drain hose coming off and getting computer wet)
1 set of tires (on 3rd set), 1 battery
Rain squeal fix at 50K
Timing belt / water pump at 104K

Other than that, no issues.

Hi all - don't by any means want to hijack the thread, but maybe some of your input on my similar issue will help the OP as well. I have an '04 S60R with 44k miles that my buddy is interested in - I posted the topic in the S60R forum, but there doesn't seem to be too much action over there.

http://v70r.com/foru...eage-2004-s60r/

Any input would be helpful. Thanks.
