You better have a good tune if you plan on running 350whp on a 50 trim.

Stage II (ARD Green) on S60R will net you 350BHP but that translates to about 300 whp so not sure how far you want to go...

Downpipe and exhaust helps alot too on that model to reach your hp target

um no...

op, im pretty certain a proper tune with a 50 trim t04e on 20psi will net you those numbers. you will find that when you get the car on an awd dyno the numbers wont be much different between running the car without the driveshaft in fwd, my two cents from experience.

When i say good i mean good in terms of controling boost, timing, fuel, etc. 350whp is a good amount on a stock motor, so every precaution is needed.

In the UK we have gathered quite a bit of knowledge of getting higher outputs from Volvo's recent 2.5l 'R' engine. It has the widest bores of all the Volvo 5 pots and they are close together which makes them prone to failure with the increases in temperatures and pressures coming from these higher outputs.

With the very best mapping such as that from MTE this may happen with a stage 2 set up of just recallibration and a full replacement exhaust system. Some do....some dont...it took one car over 2 full seasons of track days plus road use before the bore split....some hold up in the longer term.

From our experience the remedy is then to fit a post MY '05 2.4l 'T5' engine which is exactly the same as the concurrent 'R' except having a narrower bore. With MTE mapping, exhaust etc. we are getting quite remarkable outputs and very usefull characteristics on road and track. You can catch up on some of my customers who have this set-up if you visit www.t5d5.org where they all hang out.

It does really beg the question why the hell Volvo designed and built the 'R' engine in the first place?

It is worth keeping MTE in mind for your mapping as they have all this stuff off the shelf and do run a 600bhp S60R themselves in Sweden.

Regards, Don.

Full exhaust - ARD tune - IPD HD TCV. See how that works first. Exhaust is a given and you can always get a re-amp from ARD after if you want bigger.

Looks like it may have been cheesily modified by a previous owner too, judging by the red "R" and red painted calipers. Could have been a 16 year old that didn't know what they were doing, so definitely be cautious and check if the engine has had an eBay "performance chip" added...etcetc

Cheap and dirty way to get 300bhp factory as a marketing point. Cashing in on the R brand from the '90s basically.

Although, I must confess I am now slightly confused... the P2R engine has the same 83mm bore as a normal T5... it's the stroke that's changed 93.2mm vs 90mm.

Whoops *as the LPT, not the T5... I'm not that dumb.

New T5s are the same 83x93.2 also. Yes, I can see the 81mm bore being stronger... but it's not just the R that's 83.
