I have yet myself to try it, but someone with a parts car is trying to remove it for me, and they can't figure out how to remove it. My issue is that I don't have my car torn apart to look at it and tell him how to. Though from what I understand this part is the reason I can't shift out of park with out using the little button next to the shifter. So any photos and info would be great!!!
Oh and off topic and Ihave yet to look anyone have a power antenna unit they would like to part with? Some nice guy thought when mine was frozen up, it would be a good idea to bend it over.... PM me on that please if you do.

The PNP switch doesn't link to you not being able to shift out of gear without the button.

correct, there is a shift solenoid next to the auto gear shifter, under the trim..i forget the exact name for this...shift lock solenoid or gear selector sensor....gear position sensor or something like that....
most likely that's what has gone bad...pretty simple to replace from what i can recall.

The Groton price shown is $4.10 higher than the MSRP they show...also, thier writeup says this is for manual transmission.

OP: The PNP switch mounts on the transmission. That switch also goes bad frequently, but the symptoms are different (up arrow on th dash, backuplights not coming on, shifting oddities).

A bad electrical portion of the ignition switch can also cause the gear selector to not move. You can try jiggling the key to see if you can shift.

Good post bergmjs, I didn't know that. Going to try it on my own car, thought the microswitch was acting up.
