http://www.data-alliance.net/ got some nice stuff from them. have this http://www.data-alli...olic/Detail.bok

also if you want super easy...
http://home.cisco.co...1000/RE1000.pdf
have 2 of these and could not be more simple.

EDITED PART: i also have some alfa usb wifi adapters... have this http://www.data-alli...00mW/Detail.bok and this http://www.data-alli...-USB/Detail.bok

the parabolic grid antenna is too 'line of site'...i need an omnidirectional antenna and a good router that i can connect it to

and i already used my other linksys dd-wrt router as a range extender...essentially the same thing that the RE1000 does, except that i have the capability of tweaking settings in the router to make it more optimal....i wouldnt get that with the range extender...

i think, like charles said, i need a router with high capacity antennas, which is also dd-wrt compatible so i can tweak it to exactly how i want!!!

got any suggestions on external omnidirectional antennas which can be attached to most linksys routerss?

Also interested in this. There are way too many that promise high dBi gains, but I'm positive it is mostly marketing hype.

have you personally used any of those? and are any of them a direct connect to a linksys or other brand router by simply screwing it on?

i cant remember which i have, i would have to look up the records. You can contact them for your specific setup and they can recommend what you need. They were super helpful when it came to getting what adapters i needed for different setups. Its painfully confusing between different types, but they clarified it for me. http://www.data-alli...e=top-WiFi-tips has a page on the different things you can do.

Best bet is contact them, explain what you need and they can help you out.

Since i have the primary router near a window on one end of the flat, and the repeater at the other end near a window, i get a weak signal a floor above me, on the terrace, at each end right above the routers....but in the middle of the terrace i get nothing, and i get a signal now on the staircase outside down until a floor below me. i get a weak signal 5 floors down at the gym, which is next to my building on the side of my repeater window....it's weak, and i can surf, but that's about it.

I def. need more power. I'm going to pick up a couple of Linksys WRT54g routers when i come back to the states, along with some high power omni antennas, and crank the power up through DD-WRT....based on what's happening right now with a 20mW signal from my primary router, and a 50mW signal from my repeater, I should see significant gains by getting atleast 100mW omnidirectional....

Order from china. Nothing in the states out side a licensed device will have what you want. Get a China special 1 watt WAP. Problem solved.

the problem with that is that it goes on the portable device side....i need range to use my macbook air and transformer, mobile phone etc...i need something to exchange the range from my router/internet access side....

Charles, I'm going to look into the chinese versions...i'm sure they're available for shipping to india without an issue....however, none of my current routers have external antennas to replace.....i'll do some research if there is something else i can use as a repeater from china
