Hmm, it looks like it might kinda stay in place once it's put together, maybe it won't leak between the sealant and physical rubber seal. I'm thinking about it now. Guess it can't hurt to keep trying and see what happens. worst case is it leaks and i need to get another used head?

So I just went out to take another look since it was late last night when I saw the damage. Looking again at the way the cam seal seats, it appears there should be no concern for oil leaking. I do have all new cam seals and will probably go ahead and install them to see what happens.

If some mod wants to change the name of this to more accurately reflect the content that cool with me.
Well after getting some input and giving it some thought I decided to go ahead and reassemble the engine despite the small crack in the cam receiver. I cleaned everything really good, lubes the lifters and cam jorunals with plenty of oil, installed new spark plug orings. Wiped the mating surfaces with acetone and then applied the chemical gasket to the cam cover. Dropped it on and hand tightened the bolts from the center out little by little, eventually seating the cover and torquing them all to 12.5ftlbs. Cams spin smoothly. I don't think it should leak but that one spot might be a bit weak, this isn't gonna raced out so I hope it lasts okay. We'll see.

Playing around with some lighting ideas for the new headlights, had these LED strips laying around the past few years and might have found a use for them finally. I like em, what about you fellas?
New clear lenses with led strip added

Rough Design - Photoshopped in my projector and the darker housing color

Should look roughly like this:

jewels would do the car real nice. won't you have to replace the head? it seems like it would cause problems in the long run.
p.s. where did you get the new pcv?

I'm thinking of maybe using lighter silver color for the housing rather than the darker one in the design above, should have keep the contrast better like the jewels you mentioned.
I am not sure about the head, it should leak oil since it's behind the cam seal but it might continue to crack over time. I think it depends on how tightly it's held together with the bolts and sealant and what kind of forces that portion of the cam journal receives. Even if it breaks off completely I don't know what to expect, will it seize the cam or just sit there idly? Only time will tell. I don't have a problem getting another used head or even a reconditioned one if the car runs and drives well after this. I think this might be a temporary solution to allow me to assess the rest of the vehicle condition. I can get another head lined up over the next few weeks and have it ready to go if this one decides to cause problems.
Most of the parts are from FCP including the PCV.

I hope you used OEM Volvo anerobic sealer. Other brands/types of chemical gaskets tend to leak on these cars. If you haven't completely reassembled everything, I would consider resealing it with the genuine Volvo stuff.

No I used the clear stuff from FCP, I have read the claims of pink vs clear and am not swayed either way. I'll let you know if it leaks.
