this is for a 95, but all points should be the same.

In the index it has a list that says "Ground Points" under section 2.4 (bottom of page 61) there are images and locations of the engine grounds. I believe there are 8 total in the engine bay that are relavent to what you might be looking for.

thanks for the info guys. Time to get dirty. the car decided it didn't want to start last night after a hard rain. trying to trace it. checking grounds first.

odd. just got to Mathews Volvo Site. search for wiring diagrams, then select the diagram for a 95 850. go to page 61 and it will show in detailed pictures all ground points in the engine bay.

Not to wander away from your particular issue, but it does remind me of my (much missed) 240 DL wagon, which suddenly decided the winshield wipers had to beging anytime i turned on the headlight....the Bricyard froum led me to a couple really hidden grounds...one behind the battery, and the other (which was the culprit) under the carpet, next to the gear shift lever...a place I never would have thought to look...
So it may well be in some mysterious spot where some devious Swede chuckled as he put pen to paer on the drawing board! :P

(no edit button, I see...better check my spelling next time! Sorry!)

It probably didn't like the PDF file extension. Here's the index page link:
