I am running 18x7.5, 43 offset, 225x40x18 Sumitomos with IPD blues on my '00 V70. No spacers. Both front & rear rub badly inside & out. Rolling the lips is a must (need to finish mine...). Today I cut away the upper portion of the liners to keep from killing the tires any further. The only major downside is losing the classic Volvo tight turning circle...

And just for some info, X70 fenders are quite a bit wider. But I still don't see rubbing with a 225 in the front with a small spacer.

Wow, yeah... I could have sworn I typed 45. Stupid Keyboard Dyslexia. Just posted that to say that 17x7's will fit in the front wheel wells.

Of course they will? 17x7s were OEM, lol.

thinking of selling the 225 40 r18 tires that the wheels come with because they will indeed cause problems on how low of a drop my wagon is at...

so now do i get 215 40 r18 or 225 35 r18?

these are only $90 a tire but made in 07 :( (225 35 r18)

They won't. I've had 205's on my car forever, they look fine.

if you would have said tritons....i could have ended this thread for you a long time ago.

you need 215/40/18 tires....you won't rub with 10mm spacers....

with 225/40/18, you'll rub with most spacers....rolling NECESSARY...all i had to do on mine was to fold the lips inwards front and rear...had 15mm spacers rear, 10mm spacers anterior....only very very slight rubbing on full lock and if i didn't see a huge dip coming in the road...

with 225/40/18 on KW's set pretty low, my car wouldn't rub on smooth roads, but even the slightest bump, and i was shredding tire.

I've used tirebuyer. I had a set of 4, one got a flat and the only place I could find those tires were on tirebuyer. They said shipping would take 3-4 days. Showed up the next day, granted it was only St. Louis to Chicago. I had no problem with them and would gladly purchase from them again if the price is right.

sorry! haha thanks pras, tritons arent uber rare or special but i was keeping it a secret at the beginning of all of this then it didnt last
i think im going to grab those 215 40 18 pirelli's i posted and grab a 5mm and 10mm spacer set up (Already have 15's) and attempt to sell the tires that come on the wheels...
im concerned because i already get rubbing with the 205 45 17 volans and my drop when braking hard or cornering hard :(

tirebuyer it is then!

215/40/18 or 225/35/18. Pretty similar in size but the 215s will give slightly more sidewall. Find whichever is cheaper

Ryan is right. However, I still believe the 215/40/18 tires are going to be the perfect balance for you. You'll get a fair sidewall height, but you'll also have slightly less width to the tire, which will either require you to do less lip folding, or allow you to add a bit larger of a spacer, depending on your goals/needs.

I'll put up some pics of 215/35/18 on my tritons from long ago, along with pics with 225/40/18 on the tritons from long ago. Give me a few minutes.

225/40/18, no spacers. folded lips just in case, but didn't really need to. suspension is Eibach progressives wrapped on Bilstein HD's.

225/40/18, 15mm spacers anterior to clear BBK, spacers in rear removed...suspension is KW V2....fender lips folded, and i was shredding tires during this meet...had just installed the wheels and tires the night before, and since it was undriveable in the rear, i removed the spacers since there isn't a BBK back there....kept the front spacers on because of the BBK....wasn't a fun drive at all...went home and bought 215/35/18 tires the next day.

215/35/18 tires....either 10 or 15mm spacers up front, but either set had very minimal rubbing on anything...fender lips folded, rear has 25mm spacers, zero rub with quarter lips folded....suspension is KW V2 set pretty low, obviously....this was my favorite time with the car...didn't have a single complaint about anything at all....everytime i see these pics, i regret doing all my body work and paint...should have just done the engine and left the rest alone....what a car!!....only downside is i was always afraid of bending a wheel....hence why i suggest a 215/40 for you for extra sidewall height....plus, you're not going as low as me, so you'll have the space for a slight sidewall increase..

Thanks guys! And especially Pras!

I can't wait to get these wheel on!

I got 215 40 18 yesterday... will have them on the car in a few weeks (Over spring break)

I used some tire size calculator and found that my 215 45 17 winters are very similar in size to the 215 40 18 tires I intended to purchase so I put my winters on to test and they are tight but will work... more info to come later when its said and done!

My biggest concern is wearing the fender liner upper outer corner with how low the car is on now what is going to be an even taller tire/wheel combo than my current set up of summer 205 45 17 volans...

yeah, you will get some fender liner rubbing....you can unclip it, fold the lips up on your fenders/quarters, and reattach the liners up higher.

then don't use large spacers...go with 5mm up front and 10mm rear...or leave the front alone if you don't have a BBK....just add a 10mm or 15mm rear.
