Carbon Fiber Hoods For '98-'00 70-Series: Possible Group Buy?

He's doing FG 240 flathoods right now, but is open to doing whatever. Since I have a '98 V70R, and would love to have a CF hood, I asked him to give me some information. He said the most expensive part is the tooling of the mold, and setup cost. Check out his FG 240 flathoods on TB here: http://forums.turbob...ight=fiberglass
Based on a minimum order of 20 carbon fiber hoods, the per-unit price will be $1,300 - $1,500 each, plus shipping. If this price seems scary, keep in mind that the last company to make CF hoods for these cars was Gemini Composites. Theirs were sold through IPD about 5-6 years ago for about the same price, and weren't that great a quality. The reason I didn't bother with fiberglass was that there isn't a significant weight savings, and the setup and tooling costs were the same between FG and CF, so we'd get more bang for our buck with CF.
Upfront: I am merely putting this out there to gauge interest. This is for '98-'00 V/S/C70 hoods ONLY... if you want another part, then organize your own group buy. If you don't like the quoted price, then make your own hood yourself. Group buys have never gone well for me, so I'm hesitant to even do this... but I know there's been expressed interest out there for this product, and I wanted to offer this opportunity up to anyone else who might be interested.
I'm also talking to him about other smaller parts... stay tuned for information on that.

CF is cool and I'm always up for new bling, but how much of weight savings are we discussing here? And how would it clamp shut? Would the same "rings" be bolted into the underside? What about provisions for the squirters?

Already did the battery conversion.
Burn-E: I think after there's enough interest, he'll need to get a sample hood for placement of the threads for the hinges, location and size/configuration of squirter holes, and the mounting location of the hood latch loops. He'll also need to take into account the location and mounting point for the hood release handle and mounting points for the grille. I'm no expert in setup for creating a CF hood, but I would think that list at the very least needs to be considered.

Good. So what's the point of changing your hood to carbon fiber then? To save weight? If you're thinking to to show "bling"..damn this proves big time that the Volvo community is insanely far behind.

You really should look at the rest of my car before you say that, or do you normally talk first and think later?

Might be interested in this too Nick...seeing as how I think Mike is gonna snake me on this other hood...damn you Justin!!! lol My car is already passe enough being flat black and all...so adding a cf hood will only age my mods that much more. I'm thinking that 5 years from now...maybe I'll be hellaflush too on stupid looking wheels from the 80's. Then I'll be one of the cool kids too....woohoo Ohhh wait....then I'll be five years behind whatever the cool thing is then...damn I just can't win

Too bad I wasn't building a 242... I'd have one of his flathoods in fiberglass or even CF hoods on it already.
I do know of someone here in Portland that has one of the old IPD CF hoods on his '00 V70R. As many times as I talk to him and try to get him to sell, he won't budge.
