So I'm in the middle of a 5-speed swap on a recently purchased 850R. I was told by the previous owner it has a used engine in it. Yanked the engine to do the swap and to do a little detailing on the engine and the bay. Looked at the turbo on the engine and it's a 13G. I'm hoping this isn't an LPT engine in my R. Is there any way to ID this engine other than the VIN tag in the car or the sticker on the timing belt cover?

Yeah, the number is etched into the block right next to coolant inlet above the water pump.
If your just doing the basic tuning then a LPT is better then the HPT.

Like stated above, look back near the water pipe hose to the back of the head, it might be covered in dirt/grease like mine was, so just clean it off. If you need extra visibility i've heard of people using dental/mechanic mirrors. Should have the SN and the engine model.

Please Delete, would "basic tuning" include a 15g or 16t, 3" downpipe and generic tune?

Yup! If you are going to 18t or 19t then you wouldn't want to have a LPT bottom end.
BUT with a LPT you can a bit of power due to the slightly larger displacement and CR. Good motor for the normal small tuning stuff...

Why wouldnt a 18/19T series be ok in a LPT? is the LPT weaker? or is it the .5 difference in the C/R?
