Hello,

I have a stock 1996 850R and I read an article about adjusting wastegate.
I checked mine and I actually had to lossen up the nut...shouldn't I tighten it up to get more response from the turbo?
Everything is bone stock, nothing modified, nothing touched....
I could pull the wastegate actuator arm by force to make it tighter....is it correct way to do it?

Please confirm how to do this in correct way.

Thank you.

I loosend it up by 2~3 turns to fit the arm into c-clip. No tension between the c-clip and the wastegate.
I drove my car but I didn't feel any changes.
Thanks.

you want to shorten the arm by a few turns at a time. try 3-4 and see how it drives. As the arm will be shorter, you will have tension on the wastegate when you reconnect the arm

Actuator needs to be pressurized before actuator arm is placed on wastegate. If you did this with out proper PSI on the actuator your wastegate isn't properly adjusted. This IPD video covers it..start @ 5:00 in for your car. There is chart at the end for PSI settings..you don't need their tool, just a handheld vac. pump that will do pressure as well

Thank you very much for the reply.
I wanted to make sure whether it's ok to have tension on the wastegate.
I'll adjust it now and post here!

Thank you for the link.
I adjusted it without the vac pump.
So 850r engine factory psi is 1.8, which is around 100mmHG, correct?
After I properly adjust it, I can 2turns to tighten it for more reponsness, correct?

This makes no sense. Pressure and vacuum are two different units.

just shorten it by 2 full turns, should be safe enough and quicker spool.

I guess I need to buy a tool... Any suggestion?
Thank you

Makes perfect sense. He was right, 1.81 psi is roughly 931 mm/Hg. I found this when using the Wife's blood pressure cuff to set my actuator ;)...

Hope this helps,

Joe

Just a question i see that you stock need 1.81 PSI but what the value for a 19T that runs on 1.35bar.
And how do you setup a custom turbo like a Garret. Are there any stock value's or is it al related to the Pressure the turbo runs on?

You can tighten it a little, play around with it a little, but be careful, you can get very quick spool. Might want to get a mbc - you'll see more gain and also get quicker spool. But for a quick in the garage, adjustments adjust it to there the arm goes onto the clip with no play. Thats around the stock setting (on my car and a couple others it was, but some cars are different) and you could tighten it a little from there. Maybe a couple turns, but go up gradually. Have fun....get a boost gauge.
