Specifically, 855 upper section brake lights, or maybe expanding the turn signal section? I am thinking of an LED strip, but would it trigger the dead light warning light by changing the load?

Adding leds wont trigger the light if you leave incandecents in the other sockets. From what I have seen, you can add lights all you want...the computer is looking for a minimum resistance as long as you are adding it wont change. If I get off my ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD and proceed with my led tail conversion, they will run top to bottom.

There is a discussion about opening wagon tails, and they show success. I have put a board of LEDs in the brake portion of my sedan tails by sliding them in through a cut out. I have an article on how to by-pass the bulb out warning.

Heres a picture, i just used small regular flashlight bulb and spliced it into the parking lights, could even install it so it blinked with turn signal.

on the 850's i have done strobe heads back in there in the day.
