Any help or suggestions would be great. I have read about the denatured alchol trick. Do you think it is worth a shot?

not denatured..use isopropyl in less than a 1/4 tank. This will allow you to pass a tailpipe test only. It will not allow you to pass a visual and it will not fix any problems.

I will try this first. How much should i use. Where can i get isopropyl.
From any drugstore etc..90%. clear not scented or anything. its common rubbing alcohol. use a 16-20 oz bottle on @ 4 gallons of gas. I have used this trick for almost 20 years and it worked even on old CIS Volkswagens

Never take a car in for smog cold, the CAT needs to be hot to keep the NOX levels low. Drive it around on the freeway for a good 15 - 20 minutes to get the CAT hot, then take it straight to the smog shop. Try to minimize any long stops so the CAT doesn't cool down too much. .
