Once again, I'm collaborating with my surfboard shaper. He is looking for a new font for the company: Rickland. This will be used in all advertising, so it needs to be easy to read, bold, simple, able to read all around.

Here is what it is currently....which is none of the things listed above

The Orange 'R' is the logo, which will be staying. So the following 'RICKLAND' text needs to be complimentary. (The R does not necessarily have to be orange tho)

Here was my first run:
ONE

After talking to a few people, and not telling them what it was supposed to say, consensus was that the third letter was an 'O' and not a 'C'....so Jake came up with a great idea to flip the guy around to make it more prominently a C:
TWO

However, these are all still pretty busy for a quick glance to be able to read. (This is where Rich told me it need to be able to be read upside down, ect.) So I took out some of the confusion:
THREE

Over all, I think this one is my personal favorite:
FOUR

But, yea, any advice? Movement of figures, deletion of figures, outlines, ect. Much appreciated. :)

I am doing all of this currently on PAINT so please, I don't need the 'wow, the quality is shit' I know I know, I don't have editing software on my work computer (only computer with me right now), so it WILL be cleaned up, but not till I have a good over all idea of what I want

The surfer in the first three that's placed over the C makes it look out of place and kind of hard to read, I'd say 4 as well

Even if te guys turned round btw

Seems a little too plain. Its mainly just reegular letter with a couple surfer pics thrown in. And if its small. You won't be able to tell what the pictures are

A company logo should never ever use a "stock" font. It should be 100% custom.

I think all of those are a bit tough to read. At least for me. Sorry!

I would drop the surfers in the letters, the logo is enough. Maybe reduce the weight of the font that's already being used under the "R" so that it is more readable. Perhaps less italicized.

Simplicity is king when it comes to logos. It should be unique, to be recognizable, but not so complex/busy that it distracts from the rest of the content it is beside.

I'll make this easy for you, stop and leave branding to a professional, e.g. graphic designers.
