I'm thinking of putting some money into my 2000XC but not sure where to start. 178,000 on the clock. I know it's a broad question but besides the basic tune up what would be a good first mod. I'm not looking to go crazy but just something to get a little more HP.

ARD tune, 16T/15G turbo would be good to start with. I'm not the best at performance stuff but at least the ARD and 16T/15G would get you somewhere.

If you did the turbo, keep your exhaust housing as it's angled which is a nice bonus. Also this should be in the performance section...

I'd say IPD sway bars. I value handling over straight-line speed.

Find either a 16t or 15g turbo, install it and get a tune from ARD. Depending on how mechanical you are will decide if you install it or someone else does.

Or save the money and maintain the AWD

Thank your lucky stars and start a new car fund,

Performance mods and the resultant frisky driving will probably strain old muscles and give you aches and pains.

16t and 15g are OEM turbos from other models, 15g is extremely common. They and your turbo, 13g, are all variants of the Mitsubishi TD04 family, TD04-15g, TD04-16t, etc.

The common thing to do with an engine like yours is to take the turbo and injectors from a T5 and throw them on, along with a tune designed for that swap.

But, before you do any of that, do Stage 0 to avoid maintenance nightmares later on. Should be able to find tons of threads about this by using the board's Search feature.
