I need to replace the front pads on my '98 N/A S70. Just wondered if anyone can recommend any pad company other than O.E. Volvo?

I am looking at FCP Groton's website and they list the following:

A) Akebono > $69.25
B) Mintex > $32.92
C) PBR > $46.95
D) Genuine Volvo > $62.57

I want to save some $$ but not if the pads are going to squeal and tear up the rotors.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

I'm also curious the pros/cons to each of the listed pads...i know the volvo pads are made in india now i believe, ive ran mintex reds on my 93 and they've lasted damn near forever, but akebonos and PBRs, especially what 'type', i'd love opinions on.

I have the akebonos on both of our 850 wagons. They are a little pricey, but the thing I like about them is they are quiet (many others are not) and at the same time, they don't have the black dust that the Volvo pads have. The black dust from the volvo pads drove me crazy.

I am running Akebono Euro pads on my T5 and my Viggen and for a regular car (ie not used for racing, track etc...) they are very good. Not much dust at all, very quiet, and most important of all they are excellent at stopping. I also put them on a customers Volvo V70XC and she said the vehicle has never braked so well.

You can get all of them cheaper from other sources then FCP..

Don't bother with the Volvo ones as they switched manufactures and are not as good anymore. If you want the real Volvo pads then get ATE pads.

In my opinion they are all good brands, except the Volvo ones unless they are old stock (ATE)

Thanks gentlemen. So far it would seem that the "Akebono's" have the edge.

Akebono Euro's for my fronts, too, for reasons listed above. I put genuine volvos on rear where dust isn't produced like on fronts.

I use the PBR Deluxe pads and have for 5 years. They make very little dust, are very quiet and have a good pedal feel. AND they're cheap.
