Hello everybody, I am new to this site and new to Volvo in general, but here is my story and I hope you can help. I purchased a 2002 S60 used appx 6-8 mnths ago,
I live in the sticks and we just had some snow and I noticed that the awd wasn't working, so I drove it up on some ramps and inspected underneath, I noticed that the rear driveline (propeller shaft)
was missing, I looked up on the internet and a couple forums said that they can go bad and some people would just take them out and just have fwd, so I purchased a driveline at a local junk yard
and installed it yesterday car drives fine no vibration or noises but I still don't have awd. I have a gravel driveway, and i stopped and then pulled back out and just the front wheels are spinning the rear doesn't seem
to pull at all, is there anything I can check or any ideas that i can do to hopefully fix this, I need AWD where I live!! I am a driveway mechanic so I have basic knowledge of things but
this volvo is a little bit scary with all the electronics.. Please Help

I was pissed off!! I called the guy I bought it from which was an indie dealer and was just like sorry, but I am hoping it something simple
that I can fix myself. I have seen alot of comments on here from people and I feel like it maybe something fixable.

Hi there, sorry to hear about your misfortune. I was lucky enough to drive mine for over 100,000 before encountering problems so it wasn't as shocking as your discovery might have been. Anyways, follow the recomendations in that thread, if the fault lies with the angle gear let me know, while not in the DEM Stuff thread I do have write ups for replacing the angle gear and associated collar gear that I can post.
Good luck!

Alright I set my car up on jackstands tonite and put it in gear and all four wheels turn but I can hold the rear still with my foot.
But the driveline is spinning and so are the rear wheels, so I let it back down and luckily it is snowing here so I hit the road, and
sure enough I still don't have awd, the front wheels will spin out of control like doing a burnout and the rear doesn't seem to put any torque to the
ground. I checked the fuse in the trunk pulled it out while the car was running and the rear wheels would stop spinning, then I put the fuse back in and the rear wheels would start rolling again but not much power to them.Any suggestions?

Ok I talked to a Volvo Mechanic and he suggested that the AOC oil pump was bad and to change it. I just wonder what if the oil has never been changed
and or the filter is clogged would it give the same result, or maybe it is low of oil? I found some oil pumps online for $300 and filter kit for $100, does anyone
know somewhere that is cheaper or any other suggestions. I really want to get it fixed I love the car I just want AWD... Thanks for any advice.

im thinking it could be the collar gear. it might still be good enough to turn the rear wheels without any load, so maybe when you put your hands on it, it was too much for it. try doing it again and see if the driveshaft still turns when the rears arent moving

Yea I believe it is the pump, I'm not sure to what generation it is but the DEM is on the front of the AOC not on the side like some I have seen. When I held the back wheels still the driveline was still turning so that should eliminate
the collar gear and also while I was holding the wheels and we accelerated the car it was making a higher pitch whining noise from the AOC. I really appreciate the help and comments from all of you this is a great site and I will be a lifetime member!!
