850R new owner and drive a 444 as a daily (Illustration of a skill set). I cannot get it inspected because the computer will not reset the systems. Something about a slow response from O2 sensor. I ordered both. but the puzzle is I have no CEL. turn the key and there isn't a Check engine light anywhere. I see the "Service and Tracs" but the top right place where I think it should be.... no light. So I opened it up to change the bulb... it looks OK. any help here? Please?
Thanks
Christopher

You can have a failing O2 sensor that isn't bad enough quite yet to trip the CEL, but will still fail the emissions readiness test. If you don't replace it, the CEL will come on for it eventually as it degrades further. Just replace it with an OEM Bosch unit and go get inspected.
Front or rear O2?

OP is already replacing both O2 sensors.
This thread is about the lack of CEL illumination when the key is in position 2, despite a good bulb.
Are you sure the bulb was seated properly in the cluster, tabs on the bulb are at the proper angle and are the contact surfaces on the cluster clean and intact? If so, I am thinking a cluster problem. And Pras's question - what year.

You can have a code without a light. It's just in pending state and not matured to a full CEL.

Of course, absolutely, yada yada, and if OP didn't know that then you helped him, but the car has a separate issue.
Read the OP's bold sentence and the one right after it.
The CEL never illuminates, EVER, not even when the key is in position 2, and it isn't because of the bulb. That is the problem here.

I was reading it as the CEL was not coming on while running. My mistake...

bulbs burnt out. it may look ok, but it probably isnt. try tapping it and see if it comes on, but other then that swap it with the service light. If it fixes it, you know your good, and then you never have to worry with the service light again

And while you're in there, if you don't use the service light in place of CEL, yank the service light anyways.
I also read it as no CEL while running, my mistake.
