Hello all. so i just got my bills settled and figured out how much i have left to spend on my new toy ;).
So far for the 96 850 T-5 I have completed:
Full stage 0 with good products
Pillar mounted boost gauge
Made a MBC exactly same as the 3barracing one which i have been using as a paperweight debating on throwing it in lol.
I got $700 to toss into her and im no worried about any cosmetic cause all thats done only wanting performance. My goals are to have a very quick grocery getter lol. No seriously though i would like something that has the power to fool around a little with my buddies 89 mustang gt 5.0HO. Not sure too much as to the cost to actually beat his car easily but id be happy to make a start to it. He is only pushing 342WHP. So i know 700 isnt alot to get started with so i would be willing to go with the lessor brands that are good quality but cheaper price. Basically asking for ideas on what mods next and in what order. General prices and location helps too lol im in Colorado. Does the high altitude effect the turbo at all?

Tune and a DP/exhaust.

Want over "342whp" ... you got a long way to go sport.

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

A good tune and exhaust will be your biggest helpers to start off with.

ONLY 342whp :D That's actually pretty good for a '89 5.0. I have quite a few "bolt-ons" and I'm sure I'm not even close to 300hp on the 740 :(

Again, with only $700, good luck buddy. You will get no where near that with only a tune/DP. But hey, start small, save heaps of money, then go much bigger turbo with supporting mods to get close to keeping up.

Im looking forward to it Snabb. i dont expect the 700 to do much lol but just got the car a week ago. First volvo before this was always early camaro's and trucks. Best part of having a nice car is the wrench time it takes to get her there. I dont expect to spend less than $10k before im done and then maybe a bit more than that. But for a week after owning it and it being the first volvo/tuner car ever owned id say its a start

The tune / DP is the good building block. It took me several grand to get my 13.6 second / 307whp car.

well your not looking for 342whp but your looking to keep up with a 342whp rwd car that weighs very close to the same as your fwd 850...

your not going to keep up unless you have similar horsepower and for 700 bucks that is not gonna happen.

like already said, 3" dp and exhaust and a good tune like something from ard is gonna get you your best bang for your buck and at the same time will be doing things "correctly".

First READ above.
If you have the cash in hand split in half: one half for the TUNE (everybody say that) and i suggest ARD, the other half buy a used bigger turbo, like the KKK24 from Volvo family.
Then built your 3" downpipe. My 0.02 cent.

Then what, get injectors for free? Lol. As much as I agree that the turbo will net the best gains, he is a little ways off from being ready for a k24.
In my opinions, 3" turboback, and a tune, then later on fmic, injectors, turbo (anything other than a td04) and a retune.

Want to keep up with your buddies stang?

Tune: $350
18 or 19T: $400-800 depending on what you get (condition, mileage etc)
Injectors: 80-150 again depends what you get.
Exhaust: your making your own i guess

You basecly need 1000-1200 bucks so save up more and give her the whole treatment.

That should get you in the 270-300whp range, enough to keep up with your buddies foxbody. Hes gonna be tuff of the line but i bet a rolling start you could probably give him a nice pull.
