Hello All,

Long time since I've been on the boards. Started my car up on Sunday night after the superbowl and backed out of my space. Put it in drive and noticed a significant lack of power/felt something wrong/and noticed what felt like gear slipping. Turned down the radio, got to a stop sign went to go again and just started hearing all kinds of bad noises with grinding and what sounded like the transmission continuously falling to the ground. Once the car got outta first everything was fine, but in first gear it was a struggle to even get moving and get to second. Just made it home that night after having to stop 3 more times at red lights so the car is at my apartment in Wilmington, DE.

Transmissions are one thing I know nothing about other then watching chillman change one out one time.
Is it possible to fix just first gear in the tranny or does the entire transmission need replaced?
Also does anyone know of anyone or anyplaces near Wilmington, DE where I could get one and or a good place to get it repaired or replaced?

If it turns out that its too expensive to get it fixed I'll probably end up parting out the car to anyone who needs anything from it but i'll wait till that happens before I start selling anything.

Thanks

Zach

how many miles? When's the last time you flushed it?

i just had mine go out at 125,000 miles, a little early, but the trans had a bad first owner. (Bad!)

mine shifted hard for years, and then made a groaning noise for about 1 1/2 years.

Final outage was trouble shifting, and strange noises.

Found a used one with lowish mileage for $300, had someone put it in, car runs fine now.

I would first do a complete flush (through the outlet cooler hose). That could either fix it, or give it a few extra miles.

175k Miles. No idea when the transmission was last flushed but the engine died and was replaced around 100k miles.

cheap try: buy 3 gallons of Dextron3 equivalent transmission fluid (I use Valvoline Dex/Merc) and do the full flush with the upper transmission cooler line. (Search for it, or buy IPD's kit)

if it doesn't help, or makes it worse, then your tranmission is probably done.

No check engine light? No blinking "up" shift light? Usually when theres transmission issuses you get one or both of those

Do not bother with the flush, IS GONE !! Spend the $ on a used one and swap or better do a Manual and keep the Car!!! Totally a different Toy!!!Check barbie-DSL near you.

I have a buddy who is parting out a 98 XC70, you could get the tranny relatively cheap from him. Pm sent.
