My 98 S70 has about 280,000km on it (174,000 miles). When the car is stopped, it idles quite roughly. The rpm's remain consistent at about 900 when idling, and they do not surge. No CEL. What could be the cause?

vacuum leak. There is a hose that runs from the big pipe coming off the airbox, connecting to near the right side of the fuel rail, a bit below. That one is easy to replace and I guarantee it is cracked and leaking. Perhaps someone is able to name the hose I am talking about. It is hose # 12 here: http://www.fcpgroton...her System Kit . You can just pick up a 5mm? hose and run it along around the engine for a temporary fix. It is very likely that you need to replace the PCV system. You can find instructions in the forums here.

Could also be the vacuum line going into the intake mani on the passenger side. Mine was off and I had the exact sypmtons you're describing.
