This shit is real. We have a massive problem with the pine beetle here due to people moving wood in from other areas. Not only does it affect the ecology of the local forests, but also posses greater risks of large uncontrollable wildfires.

We are also beginning to see major devastation in the live oak population due to the Sudden Oak Death. Posses the same problems as listed above.

Not trying to troll, just stating my opinion on something that I feel is a major problem.

while im not a big fan of hippies. The current situation in certain areas does call for a firewood transport ban... Most fucked up part is i see all the time firewood in local stores from California. Seriously, whole canada is trees and we are importing wood from the states? not even states close, but all the way south west states?

Either way, some of it is motivated by greed. Local parks/camp sites ban foreign wood and only allow you to purchase it at the gates. That would be ok if it wasnt 8 to 10+ bucks per bag (.75cft?). I think if the wood you bring is bagged itself and not brush then it should be allowed. Considering the local store down the road sells it for 2 bucks a bag from major wood suppliers.

We've lost most of the ash trees here.. The emerald ash boerer destroyed them due to the moving of firewood from other areas of the country.

It's been a really bad problem here.

Almost every Ash tree in the lower peninsula of Michigan is dead from the Emerald Ash Borer. If you're going to the Upper Peninsula you can't cross the Mackinac Bridge with any firewood, you dump it before crossing.

Luckily we don't have too many hippies in MI, and all the younger ones we do have are just trust-funders from conservative families...they're just playing make-believe until they decide to partially grow up.

Its not as easy as that. If they "nuke" it, than it will kill off all the vegetation. They have tried numerous things to fight it off, but with no success.
Nature can be more complex than rocket science, as evolution is continuously changing everything. Everything that has been tried to kill it off, the parasite eventually builds an immunity to.

Speaking of hippies...I used to nail one when I was in college. This chick was smoookkkinnng hot if you could get past the patchoulli smell, leg and armpit hair. Never did figure out why she was into me since I always wore polo shirts and other "establishment" type clothing, and I was dick to some of her more irritating friends.

When Jerry Garcia died she wanted me to go to a candlelight vigil in his memory with her....that was a big fuck no on my end.. I told one of my buddies about it and he showed up to the vigil in his 67 grand prix and was doing burnouts in the parking lot, because he though it was funny pissing off the hippies. She split the next day after I came across as being "indifferent and unconcerned" about his behavior. No loss on my end since I didn't have to smell that nasty patchoulli anymore or hear about her drum circle friends. She came from a well-off conservative family and was just playing the pseudo-hippy game.

Did they try a kiln? Pretty sure that would do it. Radiation would also work. We ship lumber all over the country every day. I am refering to the cut firewood, not whatever beasties they hippies are complaining about this week.

Ah, I see. Thats a good point. They could do some kind of sterilization. I know they use poison at lumber mills. But that stuff isn't meant to be burnt.

I grew up in a familly that logged, cut, dried and sold hardwood..kiln dried lumber and firewood cut by fly by night rednecks are different businesses. Most people are not going to pay the price of kiln dried firewood. A lot of fire wood is just cut, split and delivered.if it isn't it just sits in piles until it sells or starts to rot..You can mandate sterilization of firewood but there will be plenty of guys who don't do it...Once the wood with the parasite, or the disease, is moved and the problem is transferred to live trees it is hard to stop the spread...

Just like with AIDS...its easy to kill HIV, Just use bleach...but how do you do it with out killing the host?

Thats PT. Most lumber has 0 chems added and is just kiln dried. IE pyro takes care of parasites. As for some people will not do it, who cares. The bulk of the issue is commercial firewood. Easy enough to regulate.

it is not hard to sell firewood unregulated. there are tractor trailer loads being hauled around by small companies all the time. Doesn't have to be a large company to cause problems.. Also like i stated before, the hauling of rotted unused firewood and "scraps" contributes too.
