I'm a big 1st gen 850/V70 fan, but lately I've been seeing some really good deals popping up on the newer gens. Are the 2nd gen V70's as realiable as the previous ones? Anything I need to be concerned about?

Major automatic trans issues on the early ones, if it's not bad already expect it to have issues at some point, unless it has already been replaced with an updated Volvo unit. 2001's are the worst of the bunch with 2002's almost just as bad. 2003 on up much better. If manual trans, then you're ok. ETM issues(throttle module) early models, Dash electronics early models. Just to name what readily comes to mind.

What are you smoking?! He didnt say if it was a 5spd or not.

To the OP.

S60/V70/XC:
01-02 are great vehicles if they are the 5spd standard.
03+ have no tranny issues and are just as bullet proof as the older series.

What it comes down to is never buy an 01-02 automatic unless it has recent documentation or a VOLVO only replaced tranny. New from the dealer only. Or if you plan on doing a 5spd swap.

Also ETMs do fail but that's a one time expense and a 15min job to replace.
