I was just wondering if we had any programmers or IT workers on here.
Im in the IT field myself. Would be good to have some discussions about IT/Programming
on here as well.
Thanks

Sure would, and there has been discussions in the past. Quite a bit of computer people here but uh.... this is a pretty odd thread. Might be good to post a question, discussion topic, etc? You know so we all can talk about stuff?

This is like walking in to a crowd of people and saying "so how bout them computers? computers and stuff is cool". Conversation over.

Let's talk about modems and baud rates. I feel they have been overlooked for many many years.

Computer repair business? As in the personal level? I see one from time to time. Usually looks like its on it's last leg.

Gotta agree with that one.

Computer repair isn't the best trade anymore. Prices have become so low that people tend to toss things and buy new.
I was in the maintenance shop that did the very last component level maintenance for the Army. That shop is gone now. Even the Army realized that it's just cheaper to buy warranties and when those run out they buy brand new. Most IT people I know (almost everyone I know) are switching to the network admin side of the house.
My company is switching gears too. Six months ago I taught soldiers how to do what I did when I was still in. That contract with the government died off. The company gave me a new position as a "Senior Computer Network Technologist II" (whatever the hell that means).
All the 33W and 35T (The old and new version of my MOS) are going after security+ and network+ certs because that's what all the companies want to see in employees now.

Sorry if I ranted. I was just having this conversation last night with another former 33W, haha.

Anyways, there's a pretty solid number of IT people around the forum. Start up a thread (or move this one) over to the offtopic section and ask some questions if you like.

I have an issue....and I don't enjoy doing anything with computers except looking at pics. I can maintain what I have and not screw them up...but that's about the extent of it.

I just got a new wireless router. I also have a Sprint Airvana, which provides cell service for our house...It runs through our internet AFTER the router. They call for it to run in the DMZ, but it was fucking our speeds up big time, so for a few months it's been behind the router without issue. It will only work if it has something to communicate with, so I run a Roku box off of that. As long as something else is run off of it, it will work.

Anyway...the new router works fine, but now our phones show us as being in either Ho Chi Minh City or where we live in Tecumseh, MI. Anything location based aside from GPS also shows us as being in Ho Chi Minh City. This is whether our phones are connected to WiFi or running data off the Airvana.

Kinda stumped, but I do know it's from the router.

So the simple version of that is:

You have a cellular repeater behind your router? And when you're transmitting phone data through it, you in vietkong? Has Sprint commented on this? Sounds like it might be an issue with their system, or a configuration issue with the access point?

Shot in the dark, you don't use any kind of proxy service or browse a lot of vietnamese porn? In to asian? Where's serge at?

If it was in the DMZ, it was burning your bandwidth cause all your neighbours were using your point as well :P
