I needed a place to post pictures, progress, to ask questions, get advice and of course get flamed. Originally had hopes of doing a turbo swap, however, this car has an LH3.2. Had it been the Motronic 4.3.. I probably would have pushed onward despite all the issues others have had trying to make it happen... see http://volvospeed.co...ap#entry2003390

So, anyway, 95 N/A 850 wagon with LH3.2 and an M56 250k (ish) on the clock, blown head gasket or cracked head/block. The goal is to make a nice looking, reliable DD. This is a second car, and doesn't get as much of my time as I would like, so needless to say, my progress is slow. Not really sure what the overheating issue is with the original motor (will tear it down at some point to find out) so rather than fix it, I opted to pull a motor at the local JY. Ended up with a N/A motor from a 98 S70 with closer to 150k. Debated tearing it down and going "stage 0" but since it was only $100 for the motor, and compression seems to be ok, I figured why not give it a shot and see how it goes.

So far:
Original motor removed
Engine bay deep cleaned (what a mess)
Cleaned new motor up
M56 moved to new motor with new clutch and new rear main seal
Gasket matching on intake and exhaust ports
Painted valve cover and intake mani
New oem plugs
New timing belt
Various other accessory items moved over

To do:
Finish slapping on all the accessories I can before the motor goes in (this includes new thermostat and PCV breather system)
Paint engine bay
Put in new engine mounts and poly bushings
Get the engine in the car, hooked up and see how she runs
Prep and paint Volans
Prep and paint car

There are many other things on my "want to do" list, eventually they will happen.. but for now the goal is to get it running right and looking halfway ok.

I haven't taken as many pictures as I should have.. but here's what I have now. More pics and progress to come.

...and since I'm either too retarded, or do not have the option, to edit a topic that I created... here are the 3 pics +1 with dead links from the original post:

The S4.... is an 01, 6spd, with a stage 1 GIAC tune, SSAutochrome catback, R1 Diverter valves, riding on H&R springs(wish I could get that low with springs on the 850) It needs some "stage 0" loving, which it will get once the 850 is on the road.

Thanks, I think it's pretty sweet myself.. and it certainly gets up and goes. I would have purchased the avant if I could have found one when I was in the market. But this one had low miles.. one owner.. and it was a Vegas car (never saw winter) couldn't pass it up.

I love looking at pictures of a job that was also done to my car yesterday, with out the M65 of course but I just had my n/a motor yanked yesterday to begin my turbo swap.
Your paint looks great!

As an aside, Reuben is sticking with the 95 header which is sigificantly different from the later models. It appears to have, more or less, equal length tubes. The tubes may be a bit longer than later models and that may affect upper end power somewhat. After fixing up the exhaust to make it louder, (= faster right?) this baby will fly! (right out of my driveway to his place I hope) He has spent quite some time on gasket matching the intake/exhaust ports as well as the intake manifold. I have no doubt that this will yield impressive yet imperceivable results but the work sure looks nice:)
If the JY engine works at all it will be a bonus and if not, the variable intake manifold looks interesting and an NA rebuild will begin.

Looks good. Nice of you to let the local senior citizens work on it too, I'm sure they appreciate it.
