To be fair, if you're going to compare 2 subs from different manufacturers, at least compare ones with similar specs.
Which in this case would be a JL W7, not a W3 as pictured above.

Looks a bit more substantial than a W3 ;)

ok...I will...I feel the same about the w7...The foam is a joke and the magnet isnt nearly as big...the w7 is way over rated and over priced for what it is...
compare the ohm ratings, magnet size, voice coil, xmas, and power handling, and the price

Most ghetto battery "mount" I've seen in awhile... you know they make plenty of batteries that'll fit and allow you to clamp them down into the oem mount, including multiple common sizes... right?

1999 S70 Base w/ Manual - IPD Springs and Sways, HD Endlinks, Bilstein TC Struts, HD Shocks, OBX Strut Brace, Lots of Poly, Custom Exhaust, Amaltheas, Pioneer Double DIN

finally something i can +1 you on

Personally im not a fan of JL....their subs sound great but are not really quality materials....they blow too easily and the foam disinegrates... heres an example...
jl audio 12w3v3

jl audio 6w3v3

Now heres a real sub

memphis mojo 12

To each their own though....

"meant to add this"

to each thier own though....

andy beat me to it, but you comparing the wrong ends of the spectrum.

This is why i do what i do. Just because your magnet is bigger, just because your MSRP is lower, just becasue your specs are better, DOES NOT MEAN YOUR WOOFER IS BETTER.

Memphis has a lower MSRP for their stuff. It is a great product for retailers. lower MSRP lower cost = high profit margins. Thats why when you walk into a store they always trying to push Memphis on you and everything else sucks.
Like diamond audio when they were around $65 12" woofer MSRP for $299, they sold it street price at $200 and you thought you got a deal.

Specs are drawn up by the manufacturers. Thats their way of marketing the product, there is no independant lab saying the specs are true or false. Example sony explode 1200watt woofers and 1500watt amps.

Bigger magnets are needed for subs that are less efficient

Price is primarily dictated by the usage of AMERICAN LABOR, not cheap foreign labor.

JL on the other hand was and still is the reference standard. So everything is like JL, everyone needs to be bigger, longer , fatter, wider whatever.

Your 15" woofer needs 3.25ft of space vs 13.5 needs 2.3ft
Your 15" woofer has nothing special about except it is imported from overseas.

JL 13w7 is MADE IN USA
JL actually owns patents on their subwoofer designs and technology.
JL is what it is, reference standard.

I have gotten memphis stuff in before, they come in cheap cardboard boxes and cheap plastic wrap that you would expect from overseas manufacturing. JL 13.5" W7 subwoofers come double boxed with a net weight of 77lbs.

If i were you, I would rave about my memphis subs too if i spent hard earned money on it. My JL's i did in that car were 10" W3's x 4 pieces in a 2ft sealed box. Eventually i went up to 3 12w6's in the same sealed shared space box.

I live and breath 12volt all day long, I see ALOT of equipment come across my counter, Memphis is certainly not one of the worst, but they not one of the best. They certainly will be the ones for cheap boom if that is what you are looking for Mephis up your alley.

In the next 15 years when your taste in music changes and gets more refined and you want quality vs quanity you will know what i am talking about.

"Its not how loud you can play, Its how well you can play loud!" ---Me

My "system" must be crap since it is all JL in my convertible.

Three JL 12W6v2
Two Sets JL ZR 6.5" Components
One Set JL ZR tweeters
One JL 1000/1v2
One JL HD600.4
One 210AMP Hi Current Alternator
One Eclipse AVN6600DVD, swapping out to a Kenwood Excelon DNX9990HD...thats probably over rated too right like JL?
One Stinger SPP1200 front battery
One Stinger Sp2150 Stereo Battery
One Stinger 150amp Hi Current Relay

Oh yeah did i mention i also have

Six head Hi powered Whelen strobe system
Whelen PA System aka siren
Whelen Headlamp wigwags
Hadley On board Airhorn system
OEM XC90 headrest monitors too :P
All stuffed into a convertible.

i am not going to get into a debate about who is better. My opinion is going to be biased because i am a business man. I support products that support their retailers. Clean distribution, protected line, limited internet, and decent employee discounts!

Yes I have owned JL and they sound great...but they dont last....I went through 2 w7's within a year!! my first one cracked dwn the middle of the cone(no it didnt touch anything to make it crack)..the next one the foam surround separated from the woofer....neither of which happened to my memphis mojo(had it for a year now and it takes the 1100 watts and begs for more). LIKE I SAID JL sounds great (better than my memphis) but when it comes to durability and quality of the materials used...mine wins.

LOL, again you are a consumer you dont know right from wrong. You dont know what a quality product is.You only know sonicelectronics a NON authorized retailer for manymany electronics they sell. Focal is not authorized thru sonicelextronix or morel or kenwood or pioneer.

Yes cheap cardboard and even cheaper plastic wrap. Not reaching for anything, if a manufacturer spends money on packaging that means they will spend money on building quality products. One does coincide with the other. Your experiences with JL w7 would have been a warranty issue. I have been a JL retailer for 9 years and NEVER have i had a W7 cone break like that. You spend a few hundred on equipment, i write purchase orders for JL in the thousands. Did you purchase your W7 thru a authorized retailer?

http://www.focal-america.com/support/

http://www.sonicelec...ocal-No.-5.html

Ok? your point is? only a crack head is going to buy $4300 speakers retail

http://www.focal-america.com/support/

http://www.fulmerhelmets.com/ is mephis's parent company. They just go to china have a manufacturer of stereo equipment and put on their name on it.

It is obvious that you are butt hurt from me telling you your choice of equipment is not so great. what i wanted to avoid from the beginning.

Retailers that carry Memphis typically do not carry JL, people that carry JL typically carry something else higher end like focal/morel/hertz ect.

Memphis is like your Kia/Hyundai
JL is like your Acura/Lexus/Mercedes/BMW
Focal/Morel/Hertz ect is like your Maybach and Maserati

Thats real info and not trying to butt hurt you.

The link for the memphis "parent" company is for a helmet compant?....I dont think so. Who cares if they are an authorized dealer...that was for example only. You are ocrazy if you think my system was "a few hundred"....im not rocking kicker lol. And yes I bought my w7's through an authorized memphis AND jl dealer...check them out... car stereo masters, whittier ca 90605. When my second w7 took a stuff...my dealer pointed me towards the memphis and said I quote"if this one blows then you get a trophy" lol. My point of showing the focal and morel was to show you that I DO know what a quality product is....

Memphis is its own company...they dont have a parent company

Where do you get your info???
