Ok so this has happened from time to time since ive had the car and have been running the 18t with luckys tune.

It seems if the dipstick is even a little loose it turns into an oil sprayer and soaks my engine bay...
This happens usually when I run 18psi-20psi. Not sure if that is just normal or not.
I have heard and was told by a few people that that is normal when running higherboost and I am not the only one who complains about this.

How do I fix that.
What should I look for

Noticed a puddle of oil under my car today at work, went out to check, popped hood and it was dripping from everywhere. :( So its safe to say I am no doubt low on oil now.

Thanks guys.

Fun Facts.
PCV was replaced less then 20k miles ago.
Cam seals were replaced less then 8k miles ago.
Oil was replaced less then 3k miles and I planned on getting it changed again this weekend along with changing the trans fluid.
I smoke on idle, so bad valve seals. which are getting replaced on the 26th.

My buddy found an article in one of his magazines that showed the PCV vent to the oil pan in the T5s can clog at the bottom, not just where it meets the oil separator. Might wanna drop the pan and check that, and do the oil sump seals while your at it.

Silky question.....but someone is gonna ask. Did you replace the dipstick tube o-ring when you did the PCV? Or is it just spraying from the top of the tube?

I would definitely check the PCV oil return port for clogging.

I thought about blasting compressed air and shove a long zip tie down there to see if its plugged, then do an oil change to avoid taking down the pan, power steering lines are in the way so it can be a PITA.

 I did not replace the seal...
I should have a baggy of them somewhere  but I have no idea where they are.
It seems to pop out from time to time and then oil becomes airborn.

Other then that the car runs fine, pulls as hard as it always has, and everything seems ok.

The engine is getting tossed in a couple months. Just needs to last the wife till I get home from boot. But seeing as how she is afraid of boost and everytime I let her drive she never even hits 1psi. I dont think that will be a problem.

Had the same problem on my S70 with the '00R motor. Compression test went great. Came across some updated dipstick PNs on here that might help, just need to find them again, maybe someone knows what I'm talking about. Updated dipstick is a flat ribbon rather than a stiff rod so that its doesn't put pressure on one side of the seal at the top.

9497557 dipstick
9497550 tube
30637865 o ring

this is a must have if you're running 18+ psi. It will stop your oil eruption

Any idea what model this is for?
Theres quite a few Volvo's at my local which I work less then 5 minutes from... Could just dip out early today and snag one.
otherwise its a crapshoot on when I will be able to get out to Volvo.
Assuming I require the entire tube assembly. tube/stick/seal.

It looks like it's on a lot of the new cars check tascaparts.com. EDIT that's just the dipstick that's on the newer cars. I really am not sure because it's an updated part.. maybe someone else knows.

the whole assembly is $50 from Tasca:

dipstick $23
tube $25
oring $3

I switched to the updated dipstick/tube. extremely better design and the dipstick actually seals inside the tube instead of just sitting in it like it did before. Must do.

Yeah looks like ill be buying the dipstick set up then.

In other news...
2 large rags later and the engine bay is no longer as oily.
Guess this sorta works out since I wanted to detail and clean the engine bay tonight anyways.

FCP is about the same as well (a little cheaper on the dipstick, a little more expensive on the tube), except FREE domestic shipping.

I believe this is the updated replacement for all the 2.3/24L engines. But if you are junkyard hunting, look for the orange handle. My 99 has it and the 98 I had didn't - so 99 may be the year they switched design.

It could also be your rings, so I would recommend a compression test regardless of whether you purchase the dipstick tube. Do a wet test too.

I had this problem (dipstick/oil) on my original 180k mile engine and it was from worn piston rings. If that's your problem, the updated dipstick tube is just gonna block the pressure and cause an oil leak and/or blown out seals elsewhere.
