So my HU only has one preamp output (sub) so I dont have the option to add an amp on my mids and highs. I want to replace the stock speakers with some components but not wire in the cross-overs, would the existing wiring work for the replacements or am I going to need to wiring in the cross overs coming off the deck. Also is there anyways to add an amp for mids and highs while only having one preamp out?

I know what you want to do but the true application of getting what you want to do done is another question.

Question: where are the amps located?

Okay: I chose to amplfy my stock speakers for years before I finally upgraded yesterday LOL... This is what I did with 1 pair of RCA outputs.

After market head unit RCA's to an EQ mine happens to be a kenwood mounted above the 1/2 din headunit. Below is what you would need. This will break out your 1 pair for front and rear pairs to go to your amps. Best part about the EQ is you got sift on the fly options for frequency modification. you can shut off the sub at will. Stuff like that.

My amps are locaed on the rear seat fold down. Amplifed outs are running back to the head unit to use the stock wiring for distrubution. I'm only doing 50Wrms so the stock wiring is fine. it's been working like this for the past 10 years and won't let anyone else tell me other wise.

That's the best I have for you.

It's kind of a hard question to answer not knowing which HU you are using. It is possible to take the high level (speaker or amplified) signal out of a factory or aftermarket HU and run it into an aftermarket amp as long as there are high level inputs on the amp. You simply run speaker wire from the HU speaker outs to the amp. As far as using the crossover for the component speaker, you do need this inline. It acts like a traffic cop sending the correct signal to the correct driver. You don't want 16khz signal going into a woofer and certainly not 800hz into a tweeter as it cannot deal with the heat generated and will eventually blow your tweeter. It also creates a load the amplifier can easily drive. Woofers and Tweeters have significantly different impedance. The crossover will even the impedance out so the amplifier see's 4/8ohms (whatever you've chosen) and run more efficiently.
Hope that helps.
