Starting June 28th, if you are not in an unlimited phone contract you will start the Shared Everything Plan.

For me it might actually even out or pay a little less with 4gb of shared data between my wife and I. I do not want to give up my unlimited plan but I guess i will connect to WiFi more. I could see this really screwing A LOT of people.

I pay my mom to stay on the family plan... she has a droid x but never uses it (VA phone #, she's in CA and uses her work phone), so it sounds like this could be cheaper for us.

I don't even think i use much data -- I'm always on a computer, and yea, i suppose i could use more WIFI.

I think it might be cheaper with Family Plans with 2 phones but as you get into more than one phone you get screwed.

I believe you can stay on your unlimited data plan as long as you do not sign a new contract and buy phones for full Retail price... which might be worth it. I am following more to see what options I have. I have a Droid 2 and up for a re-newel. I might not renew my contract if I have to give up my unlimited data.

Not sure what you're so upset about. They aren't forcing grandfathered contracts to do anything new or abandon the old plans. Essentially it just means that grandfathered contracts lose the benefit of the "new every 2" phone discount, which isn't that big of a deal to me. I have never bought a phone on contract renewal under the "new every 2" scheme and looks like that trend will continue.

Seems to me like one more reason the new contracts suck, one more reason to keep my old plan, and one more reason to keep buying phones elsewhere than my local VZW store.

Sucks because I want the new GNexus that is coming out at end of 2012 so i will have to pay full retail $700 about for it. Otherwise I will keep my failing and shitty D2. I can see this screwing a lot of people.

According to what VZW said they will discontinue grandfathers plans when you iether go for an upgrade, or contract expires. But what they failed to specify (in the articles I read) is when a member of the family plan upgrades does it cancel the grandfathers plan as well. For instence my phone is grandfathers Into unlimited data, my sisters phone only has 4gb per month, so if she goes to change phones will i loose my unlimited?


The biggest problem I have with this is that there is 3 soon to be 4 phones on my plan. With the 3 phones I save $10 dollars at 4gb a month if I switch to the new plan, but I loose my unlimited and have to share data with 2 phones. When the 4th phone joins tha plan I either have the choice to upgrade to the next data tier (to avoid data charges, which went up). Or I choose to not use data on my phone and/or tell my other sister she cant get a smartphone with her money. When the 4th phone joins the plans will go up either way, but my existing plan will be $50-60 cheaper a month then the new plans VZW is trying to force on people.

These new plans only save you money if you use low data tiers. In which case you are risking data overage charges which the changed from $10 per GB to $15 per GB. You also still have activation fees and other surcharges.

But there is no phone I really want. I want the next Nexus. I might bite the bullet and get the Samsung S3 so that in 2 years I can have a half way decent phone and go from there.

If your upgrade is after June 28th, call them up and see about moving it up to before June 28th. They did that for me.

I might just bight the bullet and get the new Samsung S3 so I can keep unlimited and then when 2 years is up just keep going with my phone.
