Hi,

I noticed this morning when I started the car that the ABS and TRACS lights remained ON. It usually turns off after starting but not today. It is now consistently on and remains on until I turn off the car. No problems with braking, rides fine. Would it be the module or the sensors? Thanks. This is on my 1995 850 GLT

it could be either the module or the sensors, maybe a fuse for the module too. check the fuses, if none of the ABS related fuses are blown, then its either the module or the sensor.

It's the module. Common issue with these cars.

+1 on midwest-abs. Just ordered mine on wednesday. Just PM him. I suggest if you cannot drive without a speedo operational you get the exchange service over the trade in program.

Has it ever come on and stayed on before?

Usually they go intermittent first. The thing is, if any of the circuits in the system are open, the lights will come on and stay on at startup.

When you start the car, the abs system does two self diagnostic tests.

One at startup. All of the wheel sensor circuits and related abs system circuits are tested for continuity. If all is good, the lights go off like they normally do.

Then another when you hit 8mph for a 96-98. This is when the pump motor gets its split second test.

Or.... Your module just decided to take a dump that particular day. If you've played with anything in the front end recently, check you wiring and plugs where they plug into the wheel sensors.

If your really worried, ohm out your wheel sensors, or check voltage while spinning the wheel.

UPDATE: I finally was able to inspect the front sensors. Took of the passenger side wheel and there were axle grease all over the place. The CV boot tore so it covered the sensor with grease. I got the axle at O'reillys with lifetime warranty. TIme to change the axle. Has anyone able to remove the axle without having to loosen up the ball joint?

I found this:

I remember last time I struggled separating the ball joint so I'll try this route.

Done!! This way is a lot easier than the ball joint way. You don't need to loosen the top three strut nuts. The hardest part was pulling the old tranny seal off. Mine was leaking.

Don't instantly condemn your moudule. They aren't cheap. :glare:

Check the sensors, Check the connector to the module itself. Check fuses, wiring, all in order of cost, like previously stated.

Glad your done, my above post can be for future readers....

$35 at Junk Yard, for a used most likely not working module...
But no need for that... just send it off to Mid-West... Done/Fixed/With a warranty

No one has mentioned it yet, so I thought I would. Have you wiggled the key to see if the lights go off. One of the issues with the ignition switch wearing out is that it will trip the ABS and Tracs lights on the dash. Just a thought.
