So I consulted good 'ole VS for what size speakers go in my rear doors and everyone seemed to say that 5.25" fits just about perfectly. So I buy some 5.25" speakers and there is no way in hell they fit in there. They're about a half inch smaller than the stock speakers and the mounting tabs don't even make it to the door panel all the way around to get more than 2 screws into it. The stock speaker in there measured to be 5-7/8", so I threw the 5.25" into the front doors and now I'm shopping for rear door speakers again.

Mind you, the 5.25" speakers fit perfectly into the front doors. So are the rears some funky size between 5.25" and 6" or would 6" fit without cutting the hole bigger?

Thanks

Yep, I made the same mistake by trusting some on-line application documents...What you need is 6.5 or 6.75. I ended up with using some Polk 6.5 slim lines

All the threads on here say you have to cut metal to fit 6.5" in there though. I really just want a drop in unit if I can. I'm wondering if a standard 6" would fit it correctly.

Unless there is a big difference in doors from an 850 to a V70, Mine, a V70; I didn't have to cut any metal, the Polk DB651s 6.5 fit nicely in the factory bracket once the OEM speaker is removed from it, That's about as drop in as your going to get.

I'm pretty sure the stock 70 series speakers actually were larger than the 850's.
