Alrighty...I've reached the point of no return, so I figured I may as well start a build thread just for gits and shiggles.

BACKSTORY:
The car is a '94 855 Turbo, auto trans. Chassis has a ton of miles on it; engine should have somewhere around 150k. It's officially been promoted (demoted?!) to "fun car" status. I began stripping the interior for weight reduction purposes last year, removing everything behind the front seats. At that point, the car weighed 3,060 on a certified scale. I ran a bit too much boost, and blew the head gasket, likely cracking the head as well. The rod bearings are in sad shape, and cylinder compression is out of spec now. The car saw 25psi one too many times, and the head gasket went out in a blaze of glory walking a lightly modded '12 SS Camaro (manual, tune, exhaust) at ~150mph on a closed road in Mexico. I patched it with a block sealant, lowered the boost to 15psi, and that's how she sits now. I still drive it almost every day like this. Dyno in June '12 was 299whp/340wtq@15psi.

GOALS:
- Most of these goals are ballparks; I'm the type that if it gets "close enough" then I'll be OK with it. Especially since it's a low budget project. I would like to see 350whp and 380wtq, at appx 19psi give or take.
- I'm running a "standing mile" event in the fall. My goal is 155mph. The car will receive some mild aero mods; I've been doing a crap ton of research on this topic. I think I have a pretty good formula worked out. May or may not put in a N/A trans (2.74 FD) as it will put me closer to my TQ peak in 4th.
- I'm still uncertain about drag-specific modifications to the trans and suspension; I may or may not replace the diff and/or tq converter. At this point, manual trans is not an option. I'd like to see a 13.0 @ 110 or better. I will probably run the car in the fall around the same time as the standing mile event.

CURRENT PROGRESS:
I decided to make this thread now because I finally pulled the trigger on a replacement long block! I ended up buying a 2006 S60 T5 engine (B5244T5), with 103k miles. I will be installing this sometime in the next 6 weeks (an hour here, an hour there, as I get the time). I still need to track down a few parts too (engine mount brackets, for starters...have one? Let me know!).

I will probably be mounting the FMIC and twin external oil coolers before the engine swap; that way it's already finished and I can just bolt them on with the new block. Just depends on time as I have a few other things on my plate (head gasket in a V70 GLT, VVT actuator and timing chain in a Mazda CX7 Turbo...). Pictures to come as I find the time to snap them. Looks like I will be relocating to CA for a new job and that may or may not interfere with the timeline.

Curb weight right now is ~2,950 with the passenger seat removed. I still have a little more to go behind the dash, but not much. I'd say another 25 lbs or so. It will likely not get any lighter until I have the money to replace the driver seat and/or I decide to start "pedro fandangoing" the car.

Any questions or comments, post em up. Flamers and haters, please half the self control not to post here. Thanks! :)

Nothing...lol. Just IPD springs. I'll be replacing the struts/shocks with Boges probably...they're cheap. I will have decent tires though...eyeballing Hankook Ventus RS3's and Kumho XS'. I have a rear sway bar, but it hasn't been installed (I'm told I will have issues fitting it with the 3" exhaust, but I haven't looked yet). Not really building it with "race car handling" in mind, just want something a little sporty.

Awesome stuff. I'll be following this.

Thank you!

Well, i dont know what "little sporty means" but this is what i went with.

http://www.eurosport..._Code=VL-850-su

I got the whole kit cause i needed a overhaul on the suspension but they have the front shocks for 265 a pair and 170 for the rear pair.

Handling is amazing for the price, they are supposed to be the Yellows set at full soft for a great balance between street and track.

I know your not looking for crazy race handling but these will help reduce squat in the back and keep the car flat when accelerating.

Seems like you like your cars low since you have IPD springs but with the eibachs this is how it sat for me.

Best bang for buck shocks out there, 10/10 would bang.

Actually, it isn't that low...mine sits about the same as yours on the 15's (I haven't put the 16's on in a while since that set needs tires still). When you remove ~500 lbs of weight from the car, it offsets the lowering springs a bit. lol. But since my budget is pretty tight, I'm probably just going to stick with the Sachs/Boges. They're about $85 for the front struts. Plus, once I added up the cost of the other suspension bits (subframe bushings, control arms, front spring perches and strut bearings...), I was already in the hundreds of dollars and I hadn't even included shocks or struts yet. =X

I'm going to try to get under the car and see what needs to be replaced most urgently, and just order that stuff first. I'll have to split it up I think. But I can't get a good look (ie, take crap apart) until I get one of the other vehicles running first so I can afford the down time. It's always something...lol.

So, here's the motor that's gonna be going in the car. It's out of a 2006 S60 T5 manual (B5244T5). Pretty much everything you see on the motor will be coming off as I'm not using it (including the exhaust manifold, clutch/pp, flywheel, injectors...) so if you need any of it let me know!

Car will be parked soon to start working on it, but not much will happen for another month or so.

I am, but not right now. In a few months, the head will be ported and Enem cams will be added. But I want to dyno the engine as-is first.

If you're dropping in the motor as-is, how are you going to get the VVT to work EMS wise?

I think the auto trans would be the downfall of it all, get rid of that. I'm curious about the results anyway. Dyno you were on sounds a bit optimistic.

I may keep the clutch assy around for a future manual swap, I don't know. It's not in the cards right now though. Keeping the auto until I have a good reason to swap to the manual. VVT isn't going to work...I'm not using it. Running the cams static. A couple users already mentioned they left everything in place and simply didn't plug in the VVT solenoids and it worked just fine that way.

The manual swap sounds a bit too expensive for me...it would cost double what the engine cost me according to the manual swap thread, only to get some mystery-mileage (likely 150,000 miles or more) used transmission that could be in need of a rebuild, which you wouldn't know until you put in all the time and trouble to install it.

I'd prefer to go M66, but I don't know what's required. Do you know which gearbox would have been installed on the engine I posted above? I would find it hard to believe it was the same M56 from a 168hp N/A 850 on the 257hp T5M, but who knows.

If its a 2006 S60T5 I think its a FWD M66, But im not 100 percent. If it wasnt the M66, It would be a M56HK.

Oddly enough...many race cars are automatics. In case you didn't know that. ;)

And I'm not "putting in" an automatic. It came with the car. I'm simply not "taking it out" until I have a good reason to. :)

But...if you want to fund my manual swap and do the labor for me, then sure, I'll swap it out! You want my PayPal? $1800 should cover it. Can you start working tomorrow? Haha.

I'm not made of money...the car runs and drives fine with the auto. Should I happen to trip over a bag with $2k in it, and get a few days off work to have the time to install a manual, I'll think about it. Actually, the place I bought the motor from has the trans too. I might pick it up and just hold on to it for a while.

For the straight line stuff I'm doing right now, and with a near stock suspension, there's no point in having a manual. It's not a road race car, it doesn't corner.

If it were a RWD car, it would have already been done.
