So, I need to pass smog.

The magnaflow search option is stuff because i'm looking for 3" (OBX exhaust) and they have the volvo one listed as 2.5.



Basically, anyone know of a catalytic converter that will pass smog, and be 3"?

It seems that CARB/CA compliment converters only come in 2.5" or smaller from magnaflow

CARB/ OBD2 compliant 3" cat I was planning on running with my new OBX setup for smog. They are right out of Alameda, so it should work just fine for you. A bit pricey, but it's high flow and not just direct replacement.

It's pricey because it's CARB compliant.

Weird....i bought a Magnaflow Race cat which is CARB/CA compliant.....and it is 3" diameter in and out......

This was about 7-8 years ago, but it passed smog in CA for about 4 years.....no issues...

They changed things in '09.

I've got hoes in different area codes, so that's not a problem, but I think I might go with CJs anyhow.

He got back to me pretty quick and answered my questions. He said he's been passing smog for a couple years with the same cat. I'm going with his.

CJ's price is not bad for an OBDII CARB-certified 3" cat. The same 3" Magnaflows cost about that much even before the law changed and made them unavailable in CA.

I had a exhaust shop spread the inlet and outlet on my stock cat once. It was on a different car but I dont see why it wouldn't work on yours. Wont be as high flow as cj's but will work and cost less.

Exhaust shops can get in trouble for modifying a cat at all. They have gotten pretty strict with this stuff. They pay people to narc out shops, so everyone is very weary.
