I just bought a 2000 S70 T5 Manual transmission, and was about to get the car smogged. According to my mechanic that works for Volvo, the car is missing the air pump, which will make it fail to pass the smog.
Is it possible that the owner took the air pump out? Or simply certain T5 don't have air pump?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

does the top half of the air filter have a pipe at the front edge (adjacent to the battery) that goes downwards? if it does and there is no airpump then it is indeed missing and will technically fail visual in CA smog.

Dan, yangotang, thanks for the reply. I did inspect it, and I'm positive that there's no hole or hose on the intake box.
Thanks again, really appreciate it!

Time to find a new mechanic...? If they're a Volvo mechanic, that's basic knowledge.
