There isn't a write up on doing a FMIC for the ME7 P80 cars, so I'll be the first to do so! This is NOT the only way to do it but this is just the route I took. Good Luck! If anyone has any tips or tricks to make this easier, feel free to add on!!

Items used:

CX Racing FMIC 28"x6"x2.5"
2.5" Universal Aluminum Intercooler Piping (with couplers)
2- Brackets with hardware (Purchase from Kristian from Snabb)
1- 2.5"-2" straight reducer coupler
2- 2.5"- 2.25" 90 Degree reducer couplers
1- 2.5"-2.25" straight reducer coupler
3- 90 degree 2.5" couplers

Tools Needed:

- Hydraulic Jack
- Jack Stands
- Hammer
- A nail or other sharp object
-A drill that can cut through metal
-Ratcheting combination wrench (For whatever size the nuts on the t-bolt clamps are. mine were 11mm)
-Hack Saw (Or whatever you choose to cut through metal with)
-Metal File
-Muscles
-Water (I did mine outside in 108 degrees :D)
-Patience

Pipes used:

1- Straight
2- 90 Degree
1- 45 Degree
2- U pipes (Or some kits come with "J" pipes)

Directions:

***PLEASE NOTE THAT MEASUREMENTS FOR CUTTING ARE NOT EXACT. BE SURE TO MEASURE THEM FOR YOURSELVES TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CUT OFF TOO MUCH***

Part I

I disconnected negative battery cable just to be safe....

1. Jack car up
2. Prop car up on jack stands
3. Remove front wheels
4. Remove Bumper (There are 2 bolts holding it on and you will also need to pop the rivets out from the wheel well liner using a drill.. **Watch out for rusty, nasty, cruddy water from those bolts!!!**)
5. Hold up intercooler and mark on frame of car with a permanent marker where you want to drill holes for brackets
6. Hammer a small hole on those marks to make drilling easier
7. Drill holes in frame of car
8. Mount Intercooler

Part II

1. Cut appropriate length from 1- 90 degree pipe (I did about 2") 1- 45 degree pipe (About 1.5"-2") one end of a U pipe (About 1.5")
2. Cut other U pipe in half
3. Cut curved end from the plastic charge pipe leading into the throttle body so that the pipe is sticking straight up
4. File ends of pipes to smooth out rough edges
***You can weld beads on the ends of pipe if you wish***

Part III

**Note that the placement of the pipes do not have to be done in this order. Do whatever is easiest to you as there will be a bit of trial and error as you'll have to rotate some of the pipes and couplers to get the fit correct**

1. Remove stock piping and hoses from car
2. Put 2.5"-2" straight reducer onto compressor outlet
3. Place the 90 degree pipe into coupler from Step 2 (Put the cut end facing down)
4. Add one straight coupler to 90 degree pipe and add 45 degree pipe (Cut end facing front of car)
5. Remove ECU Cooler hose and rearrange any wires that might be in the way between the cooling fan and intake manifold
6. Fit one straight pipe down between intake manifold and the cooling fan (It will be a TIGHT fit, but it will work)
7. Place 90 degree 2.5"-2.25" reducer on left side of intercooler
8. Place the half U pipe to reducer on left side of intercooler. (Cut end facing intercooler)
9. Connect U pipe from step 9 to straight pipe from step 6 using a 90 degree coupler
10. Connect Straight pipe from step 6 and 45 degree pipe from step 4 using a 90 degree coupler

**********************************************************************************************************************************
11. Place 2.5"-2.25" Straight reducer on right side of intercooler
12. Add U pipe to 90 degree coupler (place uncut end into this coupler)
13. Place 2.5" 90 degree couple on the end of U pipe
14. Place 2.5"-2.25" 90 degree reducer onto the end of plastic charge pipe
15. Place 90 degree pipe into reducer from step 14 and on the other end into coupler from step 13

Part IV

1. Add T-Bolt clamps to all couplers and tighten
2. Place ECU cooler hose back into place
3. Put bumper back on
4. Put wheels back on
5. Lower car
6. Start Car
7. Drive car

Now it's time for the pictures!!

what's the increase in runner length vs. stock?

Cooling efficiency probably out weighs it but inquiring minds want to know!

I have always wondered & thought the exact same thing...

Surface area decreases 3x & length increases over stock but location is cooler vs. stock large intercooler surface area & shorter length but warmer location...

Clean Install. Ian Carr did an ME7 FMIC install, but his is a little different.

You could definitely ditch that one coupler over the cam cover & get the two adjoining pipes welded....

Nice work. A few other guys have done similar setups, and I'm working on a FMIC for my 99 R at the moment.

Is the coupler that clamps onto the stock charge pipe clamping on to bare plastic, with no metal reinforcement underneath?

What's the chances of this buckling over time and leaking?

Posted Image

Looks like the factory air-guide is out of the question, as is the fresh air intake for those of us with a stock airbox as well. :( But, if you've got an aftermarket intake, this ain't too shabby!

I'm sure the cooling efficiency is much more then worth it. I noticed an incredible improvement on the S60 after my fmic setup. The overall design is mostly similar to this one besides the fact that my battery is in the trunk. 2.5" piping and a Mishimoto Z line intercooler.
Here's my thread though I did make some tweaks since then - http://volvospeed.co...install-w-pics/

I have the last few inches before the throttle body in the stock plastic with a silicone coupler attached. Lasted a couple years and as many miles without an issue.

I have my fmic mounted but the piping isn't hooked up yet. My problem was getting the hot side piping down the passenger side. Can you snap a couple of pictures how you routed that PLEASE!!! Also, it's not that hard to make piping all the way to the ETM, you just need a silicone 90 reducer. It eliminates several inches of piping. I can take a pic of that if you want.

Hot side is going to be a pain no matter what, haha - Just cut the clips for the ecu cable and that should just barely give you enough room.

There's plenty of room to fit 2.5" piping down by the fan shroud and intake manifold:

I can't really get a picture that shows it well enough. But there is a little clip that holds a wire or two. You need to cut that off and use a straight pipe. It will fit. You just have to move those wires and hoses out of the way.

I would have redone the 90* that goes into the ETM. That thing squishes, bends, and makes air flow very very funky! Otherwise, looks good!

A lot of cars through '00 still came from the factory with the aluminum cover. My '00 S70 AWD still has one, always kinda liked the look of the later bolt on cover too though...

that's good to know, my XC has the plastic version which has recently cracked where it's bolted - i guess i'll be replacing it w/ a spare metal version.
