I'm assuming you are referring to the EVAP purge valve? If so it's located on the radiator can shroud, right next to the battery. it will have two vacuum lines attatched to it and an electrical connector.

It looks like this

Yes, it would be the turbo control valve. It has three vacuum hoses attatched to it instead of two. They are very similar in size and shape.

Ok I'm stumped. My 2000 xc is hard starting I thought it was the EVAP, changed it. nothing.

Odd question to, I need to change the thermostat and sensor, now would that make it not start because it's getting a false reading.

Also should I go ahead and change the turbo control valve ?

Hard starting or excessive cranking? Could be fuel pump issue

What's the difference ?

Could it be the fuel filter ?

How would i test for the fuel pump ?

When you turn the ignition on, you should hear the fuel pump buzz at the back of the vehicle, roughly under the rear seats.

Are you randomly trying to fix things or does your car have codes that say your EVAP purge valve and coolant temp sensor are bad?

I have an ETS light on and yes i did change the STAT and Sensor also the EVAP valve. It was taking 4/5 cranks before starting but when I changed the STAT and Sensor it turns right over.

I did get some codes.

2000 temp sensor / fixed

4308 leak diagnostic ???

4801 three way CAT converter efficiency bank 1 / I guessing it's an O2 sensor ???

9150 throttle unit malfunction ???

Are you nuts? Stop throwing parts at it
You need a throttle body (ETM) before you do anything else.
Cat efficiency code means nothing at this point. That code can come up and nothing could be wrong.

Your hard strting is probably because you need a new fuel pump check valve.
With this you go aftermarket, mount one behind the fuel filter.
If nothing else is wrong it will solve your starting issue.... but you have other issues

JRL, I just changed the stat and sensor and the car is starting right up. But I think you're right with the throttle body. I thought I saw somewhere I can't remember if it was here or not about where someone was rebuilding them or something like that.

Or, get a yellow label one from a turbo car at the junkyard. 40 bucks and it might work for a few more years.
