Is using this cable the only way to do it?

Or is there another way around it?

If you want to use the Kenwood amp,
you can unplug the factory cables that
run between the HU, out to the amp and
back to the regular speaker plug, no problem.
You just wire up a regular harness adapter kit
and it all plugs together and goes. Easy peasy.
Then you're just going direct to the speaker
harness like a factory non amped car.

Hrm...
So, I don't care about the factory amp (unless someone tells me I probably should care about it).
I used the metra wiring harness already, and hooked everything up. I'm not too sure what you're suggesting to do, so I'm going to go pull the side panels and look at the amp and see if I can't figure it out.

You should have plenty of white, gray, green and violet wires.
On the car side of that connection, I'm gonna wager less...
If that's the case, you need to find the REAL car side speaker connector.
Right now, it's probably buried behind the radio wrapped in foam tape
and plugged into the output connector of the OEM amp.
