@Avinitlarge, did you open up the spark plug gaps before installing the coil packs? On my stage 2.5 boosted Audi S4 I went from 24 thou up to 35 thou on the later coil pack, mine ran a lot smoother after opening up the gaps.

I think is stops the stabiliser from flexing as it is bolted low down. That's the only reason I can think.

Coil 1 still needs bolting down some how

You're running it without a ground for #1? That needs immediate attention. You should also have no problems running the correct .030" gap with the COP setup.

Hussein has right, that ground is essential. 31/88-89 is the wire side, the little coil through the BIP373 have to be connected also.
(A simple wire will be enough until you bolted down correctly)

Huh? The ground is not through the bolt holding the coil to the head.

No, it's not.

The driver is grounded internally with pin 3,

(If ground was needed through the bolt the COP's would'nt work at all without the bolts btw)

Of course it's better to have them bolted down to stabilize them over the plug.

With no ground leads to the boltholes:

The volvo schematics are a bit misleading in this case. :)

I could understand that if I was having trouble on number 1, but I'm not, I also had it running with no coils bolted down. I do want to bolt it down, but where the bolt would normally go in, there is a hole that is about 7-8mm. I have thought of 2 options
Depending on the size, I could tap it to M8 and have a stud machined, M8 to M6,

Remove the rocker cover, Have the hole filled then tapped

Strange.. :(
I know the leads could work without that bolt, however I killed 2-3 coils when I forgot to bolt it down. (but they weren't in original shape)

My presumption was that the 'ground' through the securing bolt was primarily a heat sink path for the coil pack. I can't imagine the coil would last indefinitely without that.

How long did you run it that way? Again, I can't see it being healthy for the coil packs, I'm sure the heat sink function of that casing ground is not arbitrary...
