The Nsa And You!

Recommended Posts

I knew you would call out FISA - here's the problem, it's a law that has not been fully vetted and I believe the actions being taken under its current revision are going to wind up in front of the Supreme Court within the next 2 years. The Bush and Obama administrations are pursuing the same logic that the Nixon administration used in its efforts to persecute (and that's not a typo for prosecute) the domestic threats that they believed political elements like the Black Panthers and the Chicago 8 represented.

And the Keith case was a direct response to that logic.

Maybe within 2 years but not now. And I dealt with this back in late 90s. Even after laws were passed I can tell you not much changed. I'm done with this though. Believe what you want. You will be happier that way

. Believe what you want. You will be happier that way

but isn't that always the issue?

What they are doing is wrong. More importantly, (we can asssume) what they have been doing and will continue to do that hasn't yet come to light is just as (if not moreso) wrong as well.

Without oversight one can always expect that the bounds will not only be pushed but broken under the "Better to ask forgiveness than permission" logic. A million or so example should do.

That said, almost a decade in military intel and electronic warfare and I don't even bother trying to hide anything I do. Take from that what you will ...

Where's Edwardo? :P

So Snowden flew the coop? Makes you wonder how badly the US really wants him. Or how ineptly they expected that Beijing would simply turn him over.

Makes me wonder why they want him so bad. What other information might he hold?

Or are they using it as a scare tactic to try to make sure no one does the same as he did?

Bet's on that. Odds are, he has already distributed his information wisely so that there is no point in trying to shut him up. They want to hang him by his ankles.

Oh yeah, at this point it's all about retribution not damage control. The information he collected is assumed to be out in the wild now. The effort now would be to make an example of him.

The Feds can't go after him because the American people will be too pissed off. That said, we have an awefully short memory and will soon forget and therefore grant permission for the Feds to move in.

Snowdens best defense is additional information preperly secured. He looks to be a smart guy so maybe he has done this appropriately.

As far as discouraging others from doing the same ... Ft Huachuca is still the MI hub of the military and there's a huge push here to turn in anyone even on suspicion alone. THAT is the scare tactic.

Profile in Wired Magazine of 4 Star General Keith Alexander and the 8 year campaign he has pursued in beefing up the NSA as its director.

Questionable as to whether their actions are prescient or are creating a self fulfilled prophecy. Strong echoes of the nuclear arms race here driving toward MAD.

The electronic arms race has been going on for a while now. China has had an IEW eliment the size of a BRIGADE for more than a decade. We're actually behind the curve. The IEW battalion we stood up in Maryland a few years ago is a step in the right direction but, just like the nuclear arms race of old, perpetuates the problem in a way. I remember when they started filling those Maryland positions because people in my MOS were/are uniquely prequalified. They came down and tested anyone willing with series of incredibly in depth tests. I passed the first two but couldn't continue due to a medical issue. The overall expansion and integration of the NSA (into the military) has been extremely fast passed so far. Some would say that we're creating a monster ... Perhaps we have ...
