Comments: I am a second generation buyer from this dealership: my father bought his first Volvo there in 1968 (after being turned off by pressure-oriented salesforce from another Mass retailer); I began my relationship in Nov. 2000. Everything from sales to service is professional and thorough. Highly recommended.

Comments: Very low pressure and knowledge sales team. Very good service department, I almost spoiled by the service team.

So, my father has a 2007 Volvo S60R (still under factory warranty). It recently had a "power system service urgent" light come on, and the car only has 19K miles. Turned out to be a bad alternator. Dalzell Volvo replaced it, no complaint there.
We also asked them to inspect the brakes, because from day one (when we bought the car over the summer) they have been squealing, at about 99% of all stops...quite loudly.
They told us they didn't hear anything. They also said that it was most likely just because of the sand and salt on the road from the winter..but we bought the car in the middle of the summer.
This is warranty work. I worked at a BMW dealer in the shop, and if the customer has a complaint about squealing brakes, we lubricate them, replace them, do whatever we have to do until the noise goes away and the customer is satisfied. They wanted nothing to do with it and wrote us off.
The sales staff in the showroom was also less than stellar. One representative continually told me their was no such thing as a 2011 Volvo S60 R-Design, and that they only came in the T6 model.
We didn't pay a dime to have the car serviced since it was under warranty, but this experience left a bitter taste in my mouth, and we now are going to take the car elsewhere to have the brakes checked out and fixed.

This should go in the Dealer/Vendor reviews section.  But you're right.

I moved this to the right area, but left the link in Member Announcements so more people will see it.
This would definitely get me riled up if this happened to me!

I had to register my basement as an NFA item.

It's unfortunate but true that too many Volvo dealers give responses like this to their customers. The better thing for them to do would have been to simply apply fresh silicone grease to the backs of the pads and then road test the car. At least that would have been an attempt to fix the complaint.

if they cant replicate the noise/symptom there really isnt all that much that they can do... you should have told them to go for a ride with you to point it out to them...

At the dealer I worked at, that was never an excuse. If the customer continues to complain about it, we start replacing parts until the customer is satisfied. It is warranty, the dealership gets paid no matter what.

Stuff like this really frustrates me. YOU'RE THROWING AWAY CUSTOMERS!! At my job, which has nothing to do with cars whatsoever (but it's the principle), we bend over backwards and do everything in our power to get the customer what they need. Not because we like straining ourselves, but because it's the right thing to do. As soon as you say "no" or any other form of "no", your competitors are waiting to say "yes" and capitalize on your idiocy.

Aren't breaks a consumable part of the vehicle... and were they replaced at a dealership?

No offense but breaks wear if they need lubricant or shims thats probably a complaint for whoever touched em last. However if they were not replaced and aren't worn... then it really should be the dealers problem IMO.

You seem to have spelled "brake" improperly.
