Comments: Very good independent mechanic shop, Volvo-only, Fred Swanson and his crew know them inside and out, all years and models. Expensive, but worth it, they are top-notch. Just try not to get stuck there waiting while Fred is chattin on the phone with a buddy about women and other stuff. He did that to me once, and I was waiting for 10 minutes to get my car back. I doubt he would have done that to a female customer. Anyways, I still go there because he's simply the best around.

See this thread for reviews of the shops I've tried in the Boston area.
Swanson Auto Service - All they do is Volvo, pretty much - My highest recommendation amongst ALL shops I've EVER tried.

This is a very good local Volvo garage. The owner knows Volvo very well and willing to discuss any issues regarding to the car.
They send the diagnostic result/part/price via email such that you know the detail of the fix before they start to work on it.
Labor rate is now $88/hour, and the charge to read/reset code is $88 too !!! It is a bit pricy to read and reset the code. Labor charge does not include the $88 to read/reset fault code !!!
Otherwise, service is very good and thorough. Highly recommend other than dealer service.

I've had multiple issues with my S80-T6 2000 during the two years of her ownership. My experience with dealer shops around Boston was mostly horrible - I always felt like they fixed (or better say patched) one issue but the car came back with three new ones.
Swanson Auto Service is a different league. They know the cars inside out, and they try to fix your car, not to sell you their car.
After two years of searching, I finally found trustworthy mechanics in Boston metro. No other shop will ever touch my baby again. Highly recommended! Hey, Volvospeed guys, thanks for the reference!
My note regarding their price: Trust me, it's much more expensive to go somewhere else and spend money on parts and labor that won't uproot the cause of your problems. I could have saved hundreds if I knew Mr. Swanson two years ago!!!
