Comments: A word of caution for the Volvo owners in Illinois, try to avoid dealing with Fields Volvo at Libertville. Those individuals do not know how to provide decent service and to stand behind the lousy work they perform. My dealings with them are now under Volvo USA investigation and hopefully will not continue to my lawyer. This opinion is based on my experience only.

Fields has done an alright job on some stuff but other stuff well left alot more to be desired.
First: We bought a 940 volvo in 96 ish, about a year after getting it my sister bumped a curb and set the airbags off (yeah it was a tiny bump too, faulty sensors for the seats which blew the bags) They did a good job, but it took a long time. We also had to check and make sure they had the car either inside or tarped so water did not get in. They had it tarped.
Second: I recently totaled my 940
But in our qeustion for a new volvo we stopped at fields. They mis-advertised a s70 glt with 125k miles on it. Well we brought this to their attention and we got the car for 2000 less than it should have been, so that worked out (not volvo pre-owned/certified though)
Third: I have been in there a few times as to inquire about certain items for the car, such as the trip pc (they want 400+ dollars not including the switch) I also inquired about the ECM update for motronic 4.3 to 4.4 they want 150 (labor not included yet) just to get the program from sweden. Before i started seeing threads from other people on the same subject i figured the prices were normal, but realized the prices I have been quoted and that of others at other dealers is MUCH much less. For exmaple the trip pc was (250 with switch from some other dealer).

The guys who run the parts department are good guys and give 10-20% off to VCOA customers. However, once at the parts counter I overheard the mechanics bragging about times they ripped off customers and did poor jobs

I have had the mis pleasure of purcasing a volvo from them and trying to service my cars
with them (00 xc70se & 98 GLT) and their service people were the worst ever. Found an independant guy in LAKE BLUFF = KENS VOLVO TECH He and his partner (former dealership wrencher) have been working on them for over 20 years on the North Shore. Those locally know how difficult that can be. He is outstanding. Saved me huge $$ over the years.
I stopped in at Ben's in Libertyville and was not impressed with him. He seemed to have an attitude. However his shop was very clean and organized.. Hubbard Woods seemed very knowledgable and professional as well.
Just my 2 cents.

Some years ago my brother had a very nasty purchase experience on a used car. Caveat emptor.
