I had the chance to get free 235/45/17's on my car, but steadily declined because of the fact that it will throw my speedometer off, and possibly mess up other things. So with saying this, if i wanted to put 18' pegs on my car, what size tire would i have to go with, and would an 18' rub at all? I dont wanna do anything to my car that will affect the way it drives in a harmful way. I know i can one # of the tires, for instance, (stock size is 225/50/17) 235/50/17 , or 225/45/17, and not have it mess anything up on my car,ie. speedometer, etc. Help me!

If 225/50/17 is the stock size, then 235/45/17 would not throw the spedometer off by much. At 60mph, your speedometer would read 61.2mph

For 18", I would recommend 235/40/18. Just make sure the tires are the correct load rating (94) or higher. On 235/40/18 at 60mph, your speedometer would read 61mph.

I am not sure about fitment, but I "think" 235/40/18 should fit without much of a problem. Compared to stock 225/50/17, this 18" wheel/tire setup is actually .45" shorter in height (overall diameter) and only .4" wider (section width).

You say that you can get a set of 235/45/17's for your car but are asking about putting 18's on it. Are you getting a set of 18's for free or 17's?

IMO, the move from 17's to 18's is quite dramatic in harshness. Going from 205/55/16's to 225/45/17's was not as dramatic as going to 225/40/18's from the 17's. If it weren't for the look of an 18 I would go back to the 17's.

If you are talking about 235/45/18's then you will probably have enough sidewall for it to be comfortable. But, it will def. be a harsher ride than your stock setup.

try to stick with the overall diameter of the tires. most tire manufacture websites have information on different tire sizes.

on my old s60, the stock size is 235/45/17 and i upgraded to 235/40/18. that's about 0.1" taller than stock. nothing major has gone wrong with it. the car was probably driving a bit faster than the speed on the speedodometer. the speedodometer shows 100km/h but the actual speed might be 100.5km/h. by the way, i don't have a s80 so all information and experience are base on the s60 tongue.gif

235/45/17 are the OEM size for S60's, think S80's are the same.

Yup my S60 has 235's.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck.

s80s usually have "fuller" wheels.. the Pegs have alot of empty space, more than most usual S80 rims.

I stand corrected...

I thought the rims would look too "empty" on the S80, that there would be too much dead space. I was wrong.

no, my friend was going to get me (for free) dunlop directional 235/45/17 for free... retail for 7-800$ with mounting and balance.. But, i talked to a mechanic i work with, and he said he would throw off my shiz.. I also called volvo about it, and they said something about rubbing. SO, i told my friend i didn't want the free tires. I'm gettin new 225/50/17's, dont know if ill get em free (depends if they come in), but i wanna have the pegs for summer. I only want them if i can get them in 18's. :9 no point of upgrading if im staying with a 17'. The peg fits on (on a s60r) on a 235/40/18. NOW, if i could get away with it, not sure if it will fit, i wanna maybe try a 225/45/18. Now, i have no clue if a peg would fit on that or not.. Since a s60r can fit pegs, im sure my car, seeing as it has a bigger wheel well, would be able to fit a 235 if necessary. now what do u all say? Are there any s80's on volvospeed that are wearing pegs?

and yes, i could get 4 free 18' tires, either kuhmos, or dunlops. smile.gif and actually, by the tired calculator, 225/45/18 would be the best setup possibly, but i dont know like i said, if a peg would fit on that.

hahaha... my old s60 rubs with stock tires and rims. i even downsized to 225/45 and they still rubbed. at the end, a set of 18x8 35mm offset wheels with 235/40 tires solved the problem.
