I have found the Volvo God, and he is good.

BVA Inc, 1522 Broadway, Santa Monica CA
Look for Seamus. (They're all good, but he's above and beyond).

Fate brought me to BVA. My '94 Honda Accord broke down close to LAX, and I live in OC area. A relative who lived in that area recommended for me to have it towed to BVA, a Volvo specialist shop, who now ventured out to service Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus. Manny, or Manuel, instantly knew why the Honda was stalling. He started the car and held on to the key to keep it running and parked it. Ignition problem.

When I returned to retrieve the Honda, he also programmed a Volvo remote I got from Ebay for my '98 V70. This would have cost me $40-50 at the dealer. A few months later, diagnosed a check engine light that came up for free. A Volvo dealer in my area charged me $130 for diagnosis only!

So, when the V70 was due for timing belt replacement, I drove 35mi to BVA. Had to skip work to do it, but I think it's worth it. While there, I noticed how their return customers drove in, and mentioned their issues, and seemed to be confident that Manny wouldn't gouge them. It was a family atmosphere. In my case, I mentioned that a few other things may need replacement, but he assured me that they are still ok after his tech inspected the car. "Don't spend more money if you don't have to" he says. All they found was a leak in the oil filter, which was my fault, and simply tightened it.

Pricing was very reasonable. BVA replaced the timing belt, tensioner, and aux. belt for a price lower than another indy shop I checked in my area, who would have charged me more for just the timing belt alone!

I'm going back there for my S70 service! Replaced my Honda with it. :-)

Got this from their business card:
