i like the look, but the latch is terrible. the latch is already losing paint, and i don't trust how the spring is on there.

Make sure that "ghetto latch" is hooked up right, because if it's not... Have fun getting your hood open...

I am just waiting for my grille to show up, then it is install time!

The hood latch in general is a huge design flaw in my eyes. If you break it, you have to wrench your hand under the grille to open the darned thing. AND doing this is a big pain in the jerk. Not to mention how flimsy the device is that opens the grill. You should try to fabricate your own hood latch device to work for these things. A lot of guys would probably order them if you mas produced them.

the 850 WAS the real deal.. the 70 series is just a more refined 850.

haha

My latch broke INSTANTLY after installing my IPD grill. Creative use of stainless wire was my solution as the stock plastic unit is a real piece of junk.

The heatshrink coating is a great idea though as I can't seem to keep paint on mine.

Hmm, an S70 hood is a direct bolt on to the 850? Replace 850 hood latch with the S70, good idea!

Instead of it being something you pull through the grille, it is a handle that is at the bottom of where you mount the grille. I am having trouble describe it in words, but I hope that you get the jist of it...

Also, my "ghetto latch" is busted... I can't open my hood, how happy. It worked fine earlier when I tested it and showed my friend, then, I tried to open it to re-adjust my headlights a little later, and nothing... I pull the hood release in the car, I hear it go up, and I can't pull the latch to open the hood. I did notice however that the hood didn't rise as much as it normally does, any ideas?

The next time you NW boys get togther you should take one of the S/V70 latches off and check to see how they work on the 850. This would definatly be a worthwhile replacement for our cars.
