I have read that an ozone generator can be used to remove cigarette and other odors that accumulate in our vehicles. However, I believe that I have also seen it written that ozone damages vinyl and other plastics. Does anyone know if the use of an ozone generator to remove smells from the interior will damage the vinyl and plastic used on seats, dashboards and elsewhere?
I bought an ozone generator from an internet store but before I use it in my car I want to make sure that I won't be substituting a new problem for the existing one. TIA.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing but I got Ionizer for the car and it sweet, makes the air inside so fresh and crisp plus now I only need one 'Glade' refill to make the whole car smell nice. I never heard that Ionizer could domage the surface, they're one of the best inventions in the past few years and every house should have one:)

Prolonged ozone exposure will damage ANY petroleum based material. So plastics, vinyl and rubber are all subject to cracking after exposure.
However, I don't know the exact process of using O3 to sanitize the air. The exposure period maybe short so you might not see any effects. Remember if you do this a good thing to do is to wipe all the surfaces with a protectant such as Vinylex before and after exposure to prevent cracking.
Good luck.
